Thank so much for a detailed explanation. I'm an ex pt/fitness coach specialising in posture analysis, and you have taught me some knew things and reminded me of stuff I have forgotten. I have major muscle loss on my lower left side, due to arthritis in my left hip. Just starting to re-gain some strength now, but need more work. On Corona lockdown in the UK so I have no excuses and plenty of time to fix myself. Thank you 👍🏿🙏🏿🇬🇧🇦🇬

All your videos are true to the name Redefining Strength. The scientific insight you provide to the why of doing any movement and/or exercise and the progression of a routine is comprehensive. Even if one mutes your explanations, just watching your posture and the clearness of your movements is education enough as to how to do any stretch or exercise properly and correctly. Thank you.

this is insane we want more videos like this i wish i knew this before my knee injury last year but i have a question weight lifting make the body stiff or not ?
@redefiningstrengthOC
5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! So strength training yes does tighten muscles up which is why the consistent mobility work is key. It is also why increasing range of motion on moves is also important. So while you may do a set heavy lift, say a squat or deadlift, why not also include a deficit lunge as an accessory lift. You do want to strengthen through a full range of motion to try to KEEP that range of motion. Hope that makes sense! Because that "stiffness" from lifting is also stability so we do want it!

Hi Cori.....Fantastic video and like the others, just what I’ve been searching for! A very informative, educational video that I really appreciate you making. It’s obvious that a lot of work and research has gone into making it. Right now I have pain in my left glute/lower back area and I’ve been trying all different sorts of things to rectify it. Not sure if I’ve overworked it or if it’s compensating for my lower back in my lifts somehow. I will now try your 4 step guide to glute prep training and see if that helps. Thanks again and keep them coming!!! Caroline
@redefiningstrengthOC
6 жыл бұрын
Hi Caroline! Glad it helped. So I would tell you to also assess your RIGHT side. So your lower back on that left side could be taking over for glute weakness on that side OR because your left glute is overworked, assisting that side because your RIGHT side is actually weak. Videoing some heavy lifts to assess weight shift can be key or even watching running gait. Do definitely start rolling tight muscles and instituting that prehab BEFORE the strengthening and be very conscious of what you feel working during your movements!

Love your videos, especially this one i hope you can do more science nerd vids in the future. I am currently studying my P.T certificate and one thing my teacher always tells us is to never foam roll because it does absolutely nothing for your muscles especially when you roll on your TFL, so do you have any studies or research articles you know of that i can get him to read as he said he isn't sold on the foam rolling stuff yet.
@redefiningstrengthOC

So your teacher doesn't believe in massage then? Are you sure it was your TFL and not your IT Band? Plus EVERYTHING relates back to your CNS. If it helps you relax a muscle, even if it is "placebo" does it matter? That's what massage does...It relaxes an overactive musclewww.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4637917/ www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4299735/ www.strengthandconditioningresearch.com/foam-rolling-self-myofascial-release/ clinmedjournals.org/articles/ijsem/international-journal-of-sports-and-exercise-medicine-ijsem-3-077.pdf

@@redefiningstrengthOC yeah sorry i meant IT band, he had some argument about how people try to release tension on it but that is bad to do because it is suppose to be tight?
