There is a lovely family-owned Italian grocery store here - it's been a local favorite for 100 years! The most recent 'young' son (50!) has started making sausages. He only uses pork butt and then seasonings. First, he had Italian sausages (mild and hot - seasoned with fennel), then moved on to klobase, a local version of Slovakian sausage, and then to chorizo, a Mexican sausage. They are so delicious! I may try this with one of them. They are high quality, very low fat.

Since there is 6 of us, I make "deconstructed" toad in the hole - individual Yorkshire pudding with sausages and onion gravy, as we don't like the soggy bit in the middle you end up with when you make a big dish. It's one of our favourite family meals. Petra (Tony's wife).

I made toad in the hole when my children were young. It sounds like others in the group have had it this way. Butter a slice of bread toast it in a low heat heated pan. I use cast iron pan passed down from my Mom. When that has toasted on one side flip it over, make a gouge with a spatula right in the middle of toast. Drop 1 fresh egg un center of toast and cook the whole thing until the side that is touching the pan is toasted, then gently flip to finish off the egg. Very yummy for breakfast! My kiddos used to love it!

That looks really tasty Jane and worked really well with the cornflour. It's a great pity that my husband, for some reason, thinks Toad in the Hole is the devil's own food, even though he likes Yorkshire pudding. I could be tempted to make one though after seeing this, and he can leave the 'Hole' and eat the 'Toad' (or should that be vice versa?)

This a favorite meal here, my teen son and OH absolutely love it (Kent, UK). They are pretty committed meat-eaters, so I've also used venison sausages and small sausages with bacon, bit like a pigs in blankets version (tip from someone at local supermarket checkout). Also good with veg sausages and chunks of red onion. I don't often make the onion gravy, I need to be more organised and get it made in advance as I find it hard doing lots of cooking in one go.

We always hd toad in the hole when we were kids as its cheap to make. My mum even use to make a spare batter mix on its on and we use to have it cold with jam on. Delicious. My grandad was from Yorkshire but we live in Kent (uk)

A few years ago so many people were making online videos of themselves making "Dutch Babies" aka "German Pancakes". I watched them until one day someone on one video said a "Dutch Baby" is Yorkshire Pudding. Then I thought they should just call it Yorkshire Pudding because everyone everywhere knows what that is. Yorkshire Pudding is traditional British cuisine. 🤔

The onion gravy is essential with 'frog in a bog'. Mum used to make this when she was stretching a few sausages to feed the family.
