The powertrain is 100% Toronado with the 455 CU engine and the sidewinder transmission, connected to the engine by a mesh chain. The Toronado was originally assembled on a dedicated assembly line in Lansing, MI; I used to walk by that line every day, in the late 60's early 70's. It was the most hand-built car in all of GM. The assy line was off in one corner of the huge Olds main assembly plant. The engine and transmission were mounted on a cradle/sub-frame, then the Toronado body mated to the powertrain. Periodically, an engine/tranny/frame set was assembled, but pulled off the line, and never installed in a Toronado. That powertrain unit was then diverted and shipped to the site where the GMC RV was assembled. Voila, the powertrain was installed in the RV. So all GMC RV's of this vintage were running GM Olds Toronado powertrains from Lansing, MI.

The GMC looked awesome and I was very impressed with the quality of the workmanship! I feel your price is very reasonable and would much rather have a custom rebuilt coach built with modern technology. I have seen $400,000 coaches that were full of problems and were just a joke when it comes to build quality. Please continue to provide these awesome coaches to people who really appreciate the time and effort that goes into making a classic coach even better!

I so agree. I'd prefer this any day than what's being offered today. Today's motorhomes look like cargo containers on wheels, no shape to them whatsoever. All the colour and designs on them don't make make for an attractive motorhome.

What a Beautiful job you have done on this GMC RV. It's better than when it was built brand new. And the money that you put into it. "Who Cares" you have one beautiful RV. Have you ever thought of putting a Diesel motor in it. I think Diesel is a much better engine than gasoline. Although I never drove one of these RV's I just thought the gasoline engine wouldn't last as long as a Diesel because the weight. I even wonder if you could put one of those GM V-8 diesels that they made back in those days they used them in the Cadillac or Oldsmobiles.

$85k is pretty good price for what you get . It's been rebuilt to modern standards. You could buy a new one but anybody can do that. Great Job. Just didn't hear anything about new engine as that was it's weak spot at only 260 HP and all that weight. Even with the 403 or 454 it would chug up a hill at 45 mph. I might have looked at modern 6 speed transmission and big block fuel injection corvette engine. Oh yeah....

I beg to differ. My buddies and I would rent one every year from Orson E. Coe Pontiac GMC in Grand Rapids Michigan to go to the Indy 500. It was as good as it gets. I don't know who told you 45mph uphill, but they were lying. One year there were 11 of us in ours, and I had no problem keeping up with race traffic getting out of Indy. Uphill, downhill, NO PROBLEM with a 455,not 454. I even chirpped the tires from a standing start trying to take a Camaro at the light, and it worked, until he realized what I was doing. These were easy AND comfortable to drive, as long as you used your mirrors and knew how tall it was. With the front drive, we were even able to get anywhere from 8-12mpg, depending on how many we carried, which in later years when we had to rent a Winny because Coe stopped renting them, we only got 4mpg.

Well you sure are a craftsman! This is one gorgeous beauty, and very well restored, kudos! Not many people do a good job like this. By the way, your videos need some fine tuning. It would help if you did not have inset slides whizzing in and out. Just keep it simple and pan slowly around. Also the background music and droning robotic voice with an endless list of upgrades. Print the list and post it in text. Put some soothing music on and pan the camera slowly on the restored van. We want to enjoy this beautiful work of art without distraction.

there are gmc motorhomes with rebuild engines, drivetrains, new airbags, new brakes, completely new interiors (including toilette, shower, kitchen) etc. that are offered for about $55000, that is a much more rational price for a gmc motorhome in very good condition but $90k is to much when i consider that for that much money there are all brand new complettely equipped a-class motorhomes.

Hobbs Cienda I can't seem to find the comment. But it went something to the effect could this honey pull its weight up a steep grade without fallen to 45 miles an hour? Something like that. And if it doesn't make sense, don't worry about it. I just know of cases where people find their unit going up steep inclines not up to stuff, say, like Grants Pass in Oregon.

+Jay Young first this motorhome holds the world's land speed record for motorhomes which the one it beat, which had the previous world's record, was another GMC motorhome. I am familiar with Grant's Pass as I went to U of O and still drive to see customers in the Pacific Northwest. They will smoke the tires and drive like a car. To clarify, I am talking about the models with the 455 they later used a 400 that did not make the same power. To answer your question would this motorhome and the one we are finishing this month that will be for sale; I would be shocked if you couldn't do well over 70 miles per hour over Grant's Pass. I wouldn't try it when there is snow or ice!
