Zuoya is killing it in the budget plastic keyboard game, especially when you can find it for so incredibly cheap. I think the Ajazz AK820 Pro gives it a run for its money, considering it's a pre-built. To be honest, though, I think Ajazz kind of stumbled on that combination... 😅

I've always had bad luck with Ajazz boards and find their key mapping odd, but Zuoya is truly killing it. I've got the GMK67-S enroute!

@@MechKeyboards I find Ajazz boards to be incredibly hit or miss. They stumbled on a great combination with the AK820 Pro for sure. With the Gift switches, it's a lovely clacky board right out of the box. The only other Ajazz board that I like is the MKC087, which is the stacked steel keyboard kit. It's very strange and sounds horrible without mods, but after modding, it sounds and feels great. Plus it has incredibly low latency which is great for gaming. Zuoya GMK line is just unbeatable. I have 2 67s and 1 87. I keep going back and forth on grabbing an 81, but maybe when they come out with more colors. I am really curious to find out the differences with the new 67-S!

@@nebulazykbs I have an AC067 which I do like, after mods, but overall have just been meh about them. I have a GMK67-S on the way and can't wait. I got my GMK67 in on Monday and I was gonna leave that plastic film in, but even after punching a the hole in the middle, I was afraid that the pins on my switches would bend, so I took it off. Maybe next time I will leave it in. Two things that I don´t like about the Zuoya boards are: 1. They don´t come with a plastic cover for the keyboards. Most other keyboard manufacturers are including them now. 2. The clip on cases. I feel this limits how much you can mod the keyboard in case you want to try different builds in the future due to the fear of eventually snapping those clips. I don´t feel that including holes for screws would raise the price much. Just look at the GAS67.
@MechKeyboards
8 ай бұрын
With a handful of exceptions, normally prebuilts include them, but agree, they should always be included. I've opened clip based keyboard cases many, many times, as long as the case is not pulled apart while one or more clips are still engaged, clips should not break; knock on wood, I've not had a single one break; if they added screws they'd most likely go into a plastic stem, which would wear out much quicker than clips, IMO, unless they actually used threaded metal inserts, which adds more to the manufacturing process.

BUying my first serious keyboard and deciding between gmks nad various entry level alu boards (Hi8, HI75, M3) that are twice the price at least, sometimes 3x. Do you think alu boards are worth it ? They do not have display tho :D I am sure that will be trend of 2024.

Thanks, I'm glad that you appreciate my reviews, cheers! Don't get me wrong, aluminum boards are nice, and they are coming down in price, but plastic ones can be just as good, especially if you plan to take it on the go. The GMK boards are nice, especially for the price, and having VIA, despite not being true VIA (based on QMK) comes in quite handy, especially if one uses multiple operating systems. I really like the Leobog Hi75, as it sounds lovely out of the box, but I've just reviewed the Redragon K686 SE and it's a plastic keyboard that also sounds amazing stock, and is easier to source, plus cheaper. Review is being edited and will be published soon. I have a hard enough time picking a keyboard for myself, picking one for someone else is hard, especially not knowing what specific features are important to you.

I like the addition of inserting the switches while holding the hotswap sockets so they dont pop out accidentally. Also the plastic spudger instead of tweezers is much safer options. Very nice from you to actually listen to your community. Also thanks for the keycaps "recommendation" i will probably get them myself as they seem pretty good budget option.

You don't need to punch holes or take the board out to install the switches. I've installed mine, on GMK87, for first time in my life, with only 3 switches bent. Works like charm. After years of using mechanical keyboards from Logitech and Corsair, I can't switch back to them. It's just too good feeling to type on real one.
@MechKeyboards

People should use whatever method makes them feel comfortable; if people want to punch hole and support the sockets, then that's what they should do. Just because you did not damage your PCB, does not mean that others might not.

Another good offer from Zuoya. Which do you consider has a better sound profile between this model and the Gmk87? Personally, I like this design better, more compact and without the knob, but I think the sound is even more important and both options are quite good considering their price. Good review! P.S. Have you considered doing a review of the Leobog keyboards (Hi75 and Hi8)? They seem to be good options for the budget market as well.
