Seeing that the small is 80 gallons I'm really interested in demoing one. At 134/140lbs and 5'5" I always feel like I'm at the bottom range of medium boats and smalls always feel too small. Also glad to see the molded in wall holder, always liked that on other boats, just makes sense strength wise.

Yeah that's exactly why we scaled up our small a bit. Smalls in general usually end up on the smaller end so paddlers your size often end up in the middle. Not only will this fit great for your size, but this design also has a big weight range so you will love it. I can't wait to see the small on the water!

I want to see your normal videos of running rivers, and then hear how the boat works. What it does good, how to paddle it to get the most out of it. Why my wife should let me get one instead of sticking with my old burn, that type of thing. LOL I love Jackson boats, because i feel like they listen to kayakers, and build boats for us.

I've paddled the Gnarvana through some decent whitewater a few times now. I'm definitely more of an intermediate class III+/IV boater. The Gnarvana definitely feels different than the Nirvana. The main differences IMO, the Gnarvana doesn't track straight as well as the Nirvana, the Gnarvana isn't as quick to pick up speed off initial paddle strokes as the Nirvana, and I feel a little lower in the boat than the Nirvana. The Gnarvana punches through holes better because of the increased rocker, the Gnarvana's bow is drier, the Gnarvana will take care of you a little better than the Nirvana, the stern of the Gnarvana is definitely propelled forward more than the Nirvana off drops, and the Gnarvana skips better off drops (a potential negative or positive, depending on your paddle style based off the last two points, is the bow will come completely out of the water skipping out of drops and holes which causes the boat to almost ride a wheelie/tailie away from drops/holes without trying). I'm still undecided about which boat is more maneuverable. I think the Gnarvana is, but I find that boat a little spiny right now as I continue to grow more accustomed to it. So, I think after I get more dialed into the nuances of the Gnarvana, I will more than likely say the Gnarvana is more maneuverable than the Nirvana. However, I never found the Nirvana unmaneuverable, but rather nimble despite length and desire to track straight. I wish I could surf better and play with the edges more to give an informed opinion on that, but I'm more of a river runner/creeker. Hopefully, the Antix 2.0 will push me to be a better down river play boater. Overall, I love both the Gnarvana and the Nirvana. I think more time in the Gnarvana will eventually have me completely favoring that boat, but both boats are great. If I could give a tagline for the Gnarvana or highlight what I believe to be its strongest feature so far in my experience, I believe this is the best phrase, "the Gnarvana punches through holes like Mike Tyson or Chuck Liddell punched through their opponents in their prime, instant KNOCKOUTS."

@@danejacksonkayak Congratulations on that decent. That is a big accomplishment for any paddler. I first read about the Stikine in Doug Ammons' book and was blown away by the description of the Stikine. I wish I was on that level. I look forward to seeing your video(s) on the Stikine.

Sick boat! Great edit. My favorites: 6:53 - giggling segment 😝 7:37 - wave launching 🌊 8:45 - size small (scaled up) 🙌🏼 I’m usually between a S and M, and I just bought a M Gnarvana. (Also got on the list for Small, which I hear may be coming within a few weeks?! 🤞🏼) I’ve had it out twice and I love it, but it feels like a true M, or maybe even a little M/L, so I’m stoked to hear the small is scaled up a bit. At 6’ 135# I have the added issue of fitting in boats that are correct for my weight. My only concern looking at the S Gnarvana spec is that the legs/knees might feel too low for me since the knees in this boat aren’t high to begin with, and the spec on height is 13.5, which is 0.75” lower than the M. 13.5 is also the same as the S Code, which felt too low for me. Won’t know until I get in one.

I’m the same build and went with a small and I don’t feel like it’s too small at all the medium felt too large for me.

@@thatdude4000 same. I ended up loving the small. I have since moved to a M Flow, but I felt the S Gnar was amazing for running the stouts. Might end up back in it at some point.

where do you recommend setting the seat?
@danejacksonkayak
2 жыл бұрын
Honestly that's gonna be a personal preference with this boat. Traditionally with our boats I would always tell people to sit 1 back from middle to get the bow a bit more freed up, and easier to keep the bow dry. But this is the first creek boat we have had in like 10 years where I am totally fine sitting in the middle for everything, which is where I am currently sitting. When testing the first production boat I sat all the way back, and all the way forward, both still worked great. So in the end this boat works great wherever you sit, I recommend starting with middle. The Voorhees have been sitting 1 back and they like it a lot.

Yes! Alec is the same size as you and is super stoked on the medium. You could paddle the medium on anything and love it.The cool thing though, is that the way this boat is designed the weight range is massive, so even a smaller paddler will enjoy a larger size with how easy it is to paddle. So we can't wait to see Alec in the large as well, we think it's gonna be insane.
