I remember watching this when it first aired in 1986, I was 16 years old. I absolutely loved it and it made me get serious about my fishing. All these years later in my early 50s I enjoy watching the great man just as much as I did then, and every time I am out on the water or on the bank I always think of the greatest angler of them all. RIP John, the gentlest of pursuits made you a legend and thank you for all that you taught us.

Still watching him after 30 years. Just the opening chord gets me going.

Got me into fishing all those years ago as a kid. I still have his books and use the techniques they taught me. 🎣

I loved these, every weekend at my grandmas house, get my lemonade and crisps n biccys and dash back to the lounge, just that music at the start used to get me buzzing. Great angler, intact in my opinion he must have been one of the best, especially that was broadcast on TV anyway.

I remember watching this !!! Was so excited waiting up on a school night for it to start. Me and my friends were all keen young fishermen and was buzzing for this 1st episode. I was into my pike fishing so this episode blew me away! Started using bands myself after this. Still a great episode by the Iconic Mr Wilson even almost 40 yrs later. 🙏

Bawburgh Lake just outside Norwich. The site was still being worked when this was filmed in the late 80s. The complex has now a fully transformed into a well run venue.

Wow this makes me feel old knowing I watched the first ever airing of this episode on channel 4 what I was about 8 years old. This guy and my grandad educated me loads about fishing long before you could use KZitem or Google to find a video about any type of fishing you want, instead you had to wait for a weekly episode on Sunday evening I think. Legends both my grandad and John Wilson ♥
