Shell's annual shareholder meeting in London has descended into chaos with more than an hour of climate protests delaying the start of the meeting in which the oil company asked investors to reject new targets for carbon emissions cuts.

At one point, security staff rushed to the front of the meeting to shield the board as protesters tried to approach the stage. Scuffles broke out as security removed the protesters.
