Huge fan of the "training for life" motto!!! Yes, the wake up call is huge when you start creeping up there. 😳😲 Move your body everyday!!! I appreciate you addressing this matter. Keep up the great work. All the Best, Rob

Currently in recovery from a crash that left my collarbone in pieces, and managing my post-surgical restlessness is more of a challenge than staying active - because I want to heal properly, not half-assedly. Staying off a bike is the hardest part (if I think too much about it) but it's going to be better if I delay that... I guess my point is that "viable" is a moving goalpost, and I'm glad you brought it up today! Wishing you all well, D

I used to train for specific rides/events as you mentioned, but now I train for life. I hope to go out with a bang, not a whimper. Riding up a mountain pass in Colorado in my 90s and just keeling over sounds good. I probably would have to be on an e-bike to make that happen, but that's okay. My kids could just have me cremated and spread my ashes at the top of the pass I was heading for. Sounds really good.

As a 25 year old this video might not be aimed at me as much, but I think it’s great advice to train for life and It’s cool you can share your wisdom on this platform! Thanks

Years ago, a few of us were on a ride when we stopped to see something. We were all Medicare card carriers, and on touring bikes. Someone else at the overlook asked what were training for. One of my quick witted companions responded "Life". A couple of those guys are now in their 80s, still riding. It works.

Your point is well-taken. After years of working with my MA, I decided to go back and get my doctorate - 8 years of very hard work (and poverty) later, I graduated. After a period of elation, I went into a funk for several months wondering what I was going to do with my life. So - big goals can result in both a sense of accomplishment, and also a reassessment of the value of life. You characterized it well in this video. Thanks.

So my great grandfather lived to be 114, my grandfather 98 and his siblings to between 96 and 102 and my parents 97 & 96. But here is the thing, none of them were happy to live that long! My grandfather rode his bike about 20km everyday until he was 96, at which time he stopped because his son, whom he lived was afraid he might fall into on coming traffic and get killed! My view - be active, enjoy live, but don't wast a minute trying to extend it, it's just not that good when you are up on age.
