This message hits. “Control the controllables” has been a key theme in startup teams I’ve been a part of. There’s so much we can’t directly own when it comes to accomplishing the objectives - it’s important to be intellectually honest on the controllable inputs to unlock the hypothesis-based outputs that achieve the desired results.

Outstanding as always Daniel. Goals vs Hopes seem like a pretty common sense concepts but a vast majority of people confuse the two. Thank you for your explanation of them as it helped me and hopefully others. The Balvenie 12yr Doublewood is the bottle that started me on my Scotch adventure back in the mid 90's, it's so smooth & drinkable. I really wish they still made the 17yr Doublewood. Thank you again and keep up the great work. Cheers...

My favorite thing about the Balvenie bottle is the larger lip with a sharper edge. For me it is the very best bottle for pouring without dribbles, drips and drops making a mess.

You, sir, have very good taste in whisky. I treat myself every Friday to a wee dram of this nectar of the Gods. Lucky for me, my loving wife understands my affinity for this whisky, so every year she gets me a new bottle on my birthday. Cheers! 🥃

The goal discussion was interesting. And spot on. Balvenie 12 Double Wood is one of my absolute go to whiskies. Wish the price hadn’t gone so crazy, but I’ll always have a bottle or two in the house. Need to open one after watching tonight. (21 Port Aged will always win, though…)

I truly appreciate this thought process of difference between hopes and goals. I am in an industry where I can truly lead the horse to the water, but you know the rest. I have all sorts of goals but I cannot force success on the people I work with. Being able to verbalize the difference between the two really allows me to stay focus and sane. Great video Daniel!

Purely because it's kind of funny: I've been on my Whisky journey for around 5 years now, and I've tried about 300 different Scotches. None of them have been a Balvenie! Not for any particular reason, but mostly because nobody's given me a strong reason to try one over something else. Seems it's about time eh? From what you're describing, this seems similar to a Royal Brackla 12. Covering a lot of bases. Cheers as always Daniel :)

unexpected magic on the path to a goal... that's how life works. An old football coach used to say 'you create your own luck'. Its kinda the same thing. So make something happen and you might be surprised at what does happen. Thanks!

Hey Daniel, I finally have a business/strategic perspective different than yours! I don't agree that a company's goal of increasing sales 20% is not a goal. Companies need mini North Stars to show progress. That is a goal to me, but I would term it an aspirational goal that requires "goals" that you control to achieve the overarching metric. What does the product Dept need to do, the sales Dept need to do, etc. to achieve that 20% goal? The underlying goals should be controllable and attainable based on a theory, but that doesn't mean the Company goal is not a goal. It's not a hope and dream if it's conceivably achievable IMO.

Wonderful thoughts Daniel! I was recently away and had Balvenie 12! It’s not a usual choice and it’s not my preferred type of scotch but it’s nice when grabbing a dram in a bar with a crappy selection! Cheers!! 🥂

I would have to say that Balvenie 12yr Doublewood was the first whisky I fell in love with. It is probably the whisky that most influenced and inspired my whisky journey. I still love it but I would have to say it is overpriced in my market so that is a little disappointing. It is probably double what it was 10 years ago. Oh, and great videos Daniel.

If you put product in a finishing barrel first then moved it to new oak barrels for two years can you still call it whiskey? Also what impact would that have on the alcohol?

It doesn’t mean anything. nebulous: in the form of a cloud or haze; hazy. "a giant nebulous glow" Similar: indistinct, indefinite, unclear, vague, hazy, cloudy, fuzzy, misty, lacking definition, blurred, blurry, out of focus, foggy, faint, shadowy, dim, obscure, shapeless, formless, unformed, amorphous, nebulose. I think it means things dude. ✌️❤️😎
