Knowing she was frozen she was extremely cold and only being indoors in a towels for 35 mins isnt quite enough warmth to bring up her temp. Its best to keep them indoors with those extreme temps your having. She needs to get into a plastic bag in your sink with very warm water to raise her temps fast or on heating pad in a towel in a basket or box to keep the temp and feeding her as soon as she did was too soon you never want to feed them with a low body temp they can’t digest there food and it can drown them. Seeing she shivering in the barn and couldn’t stand she was way too cold and sick. Although she stands doesn’t mean she warm or well. I mean no disrespect or by no means telling you what to do with your heard but this is just tips to help in the future. God Bless

Thanks for reaching out Flora. I had the same idea- water method but her body heat wasn’t that bad once I started drying her off. Oh- and it’s a little deceiving- I didn’t wait just half and hour to bring her back out. It was a bit longer. It’s not always easy to communicate everything while taking care of an emergency. Not offended at your comment- great tips for everyone. Thanks for watching the video.

I think you did a great job.Don’t worry about what others say,I think you did right, the poor thing needed warmth and you gave her that.Mum was ok with her in the end and it’s so important they feed off Mum because it’s better for them ,and Mum because she will get sore with too much milk. If you have more contact with your goats ,ie petting them and giving treats, talking to them,so they are familiar to you all the while. When they give birth you will not have problems with Mum staying in the corner when your in there.I am going on a farm that does this with theirs, the goats come to them for a fuss when they see them even when they are in fields. They do it with all their animals and they are comfortable when they give birth with them in there and with them handling the babies. All animals react with love and kindness after all your their carers ..GI is absolutely adoreable ,I love her markings ,she’s so pretty with the different colours and the fluff at the moment 🥰

Very confusing video. You were narrating one thing and not acting on all your explanations. Also curious that you said several times that you hadn’t ever had this experience before with a Kidd in your herd, yet you didn’t ever mention that you called your veterinarian for advice. According to the courses/research: First thing is getting them up to a rectal temp of minimum 38C. Once they are warm enough and have a sucking reflex need colostrum within first couple hours after birth. If no sucking reflex then tube feed them & aim for @ least 50ml. (The Veterinarian may want you to give medication as well) But if their temperature isn’t high enough they can’t eat & passing a tube is more difficult & they can aspirate. So temp >38C & nursing on mom/bottle/tube feed colostrum within first couple hours after birth. Beautiful baby! Mom was probably a bit in shock. Wish you had a camera in the stall to see how on earth it managed to get into the feeder. Can’t wait for your next adventure ❤

Thanks for your tips. It can be difficult to record and take care of everything in a situation like this. Especially that I was alone. I grew up on a dairy farm. I’m filled with knowledge and experiences with calves and less with goats. I didn’t feel the need to call a vet because everything you just mentioned was all in my head through research and similar situations we’ve had with calves. Tube feeding and temps is all something I’ve done in my past. Just not with goats. Sorry I didn’t make myself clear in the video. Thanks for watching and reaching out.

Baby needs to warm up… shouldn’t eat if she is cold.

You should have been more worried about feeding at this point and hold her to mom if she doesn't have a sucking reflex she's to cold and she can't eat if you don't get her fed she can't live.

You need to put the baby on mom because that is life and mom already left her to die she might kill her if you leave her alone but the baby is the one that will Make the difference by feeding on mom and to have the strength she needs to feed mom isn't going to do her job she looks too young to breed so this is the consequences of it.

You should have out the baby on mom the first time the first thing you should have done she would have been strong enough to force herself on later.

You just left the baby with a mom that wants her to die and rewarded the mom for that behavior in a heard the mom has an obligation to fulfill for the awesome life you are providing it you should of stuck the liquid on the moms nose to trigger her licking you missed that opportunity but you can't trust mom alone with the baby because you don't know that mom wouldn't kill it if baby tried to feed she wanted it to due on its own.
