My friend from Nova Scotia moved to Florida and brought their Newfie. First time seeing her I totally thought it was a bear and I picked my small dog up when I went over to visit and was scared for a second. Lol! Then one time in North Georgia, I was driving to work and thought I had seen a neighbor get a Newfie. It stood up and it was an actual black bear! 😮

Albertan here. I’ve never pronounced it the “wrong way”, and don’t know anyone who does. It’s seems so bizarre to me that any Canadian wouldn’t know how to pronounce one of our original provinces properly. TB, I feel that many Canadians who would pronounce it any other way than new-fin-land are immigrants, Americans, or Québécois due to ESL people saying a word or name based on how it’s spelled. Also, there are SO many maritimers living in Alberta that I don’t think folks would get away with pronouncing it wrong and there not be an effort to correct them, lol.

Have had Newfies all my life. They are absolutely WONDERFUL dogs. Griffin (Griff) was an absolute BEAST in the water and tried valiantly to “rescue” us all day long. Guinness is the current guy and he is such a loving cuddle-bear. The biggest lap-dog you have ever seen.

NEWFIES my fave! I saw a book once that described various different breeds of dog. It had a little sidebar for each breed giving a rating for how good/safe they are with other dogs, kids, etc. Newfies had top marks for every category... except kids. Not because they're likely to bite them or anything, but because they're so big and so friendly they might accidentally smother a small child to death with excessive affection and drool.

lmao 😂 my aunt had a newfie for a good while, and he had the funniest habit around kids. he only ever accidentally hurt one once (really just knocked them over, kid was fine) but since then when he wanted to approach kids he'd get down on his belly and paddle crawl to them to avoid knocking them over or sitting on them 😊

My uncle had a Newfoundland when I was growing up. My mother never liked me being around her because I was so small and Newfs are massive, and she was afraid the dog would knock me over. That floofy bear was a gentle giant. Her favorite toy was a 12lb bowling ball.😂
