I love the actor for Baldur. Every line he says he sounds like he's about to break. He feels NOTHING. Sex, Taste, Pain, Warmth, Cold, Comfort, Softness, Hardness, all gone. No wonder why he sounds like he's about to snap. Baldur went insane from 100 years of not being able to feel. And the VA captured the voice of a tortured man perfectly

On the e3 trailer u can see that Atreus skills are improving while killing/hunting etc. In my opinion, the devs removed the skill mechanic in the official game, the story and seeing Atreus being better and better throughout the game is more enjoyable without seeing 'improved skills in, gained new level in' etc., u get the point, some skyrim-like mechanics. It was a good move from the devs ;).

When Kratos finally snaps Baldur's neck and says "the cycle ends here," I get a serious sense of pride knowing that Kratos has grown past his own rage to see the cruel cycle that has created countless bastards such as himself and Baldur and to put a stop to it. Child obtains anger issues due to bad parents, and thus become bad parents that give their own kids anger issues. That's why he's so critical of Atraeus; he's the only chance Kratos has at actually improving the world without killing anyone, for once. Hell, the whole game is basically just one undesired detour for Kratos on his journey to honor his dead wife: he wanted NONE of this.

To add more to the reasons why Freya put the spell on Baldur. The ancient prophercy told Baldur s death as "needless death". Hence, Freya put the curse on him to prevent this forseen event. However, Baldur would have not wanted to die if he had had not feel painless at all. The mother curse made him want to die. It was indeed the "needless death" in the end. Well done Freya that she literally fulfilled the prophercy of the death of her beloved son.🙄

I spoke to the REAL Goddess Freyja myself about who she is. Freyja and Frigg are not the same goddess, Frigg is another goddess entirely separate from Freyja. Freyja actually became Jarnsaxa who is Laufey, mother of Loki by self-impregnation, giving birth to herself the moment she died because Farbauti is her male aspect. Freyja is a he-she. There's a lot of slander aimed against her by the Aesir whom she is at war with. Freyr is on her side, too, since he is her male aspect, him being the embodiment of her masculine energy, him being Farbauti himself. Baldur is her "son" only because she created him, Baldur being her twin flame. Freyja told me that she is Nanna. Frigg is Sif and Skuld, according to Goddess Freyja. Freyja admits that it was she Freyja who tried to protect him, but due to Frigga's own trickery lead to Baldur's fate. Baldur became Vali, Hodr being one of Freyja's/Freyr's aspects. It was all a convoluted plan to chain Loki and his children up, Loki's own children likewise being different aspects of Loki. Loki's wives Angrboda and Sigyn are also aspects of his, too. Angrboda is Hekate, Sigyn is Aphrodite, and Nanna is Artemis. Bottom line: Loki had been born a slave to the Aesir. The mistletoe is a metaphor, a "kiss goodbye" from a lover... Loki was Baldur's soul mate. Loki is Freyja. Loki is Athena in the Greek Pantheon, also known as Ishtar in the Middle East. Goddess Freyja told me that she is Ishtar and that she is also Ishtaran. Baldr is so important to creation that risking losing him meant the end of the universe for every being. People fail to see that apparently. Instead of blaming Freyja, people need to learn mythology.

"The only God of War enemy that I really felt sympathy for." I find that statement rather hard to agree with. (SPOILERS btw, if you haven't played previous God of Wars) I'd say Deimos and Callisto (Kratos' brother and mother) do kind of count as enemies, since Kratos had to fight both of them upon first meeting them; latter was turned into a monster unwillingly, forcing Kratos to kill her and afford mentioned was just crazed from being imprisoned in the Realm of Thanatos for the majority of his life. Hephaestus only assaulted Kratos in order to protect his daughter, a motive even Kratos himself openly sympathized with. Perseus fought Kratos for the audience with the Fates inorder to resurrect his lost loved one. The unnamed Spartan soldier was pitted against Kratos by the Fates and they fought in the dark, both unknowing who their opponent was. Only reason King Midas, Icarus and Helios posed any type of threat to Kratos, was because he assaulted them unprovoked. It could be argued that some characters, like Charon the ferryman, only reacted hostilely to Kratos because he was getting in the way of their job. And Persephone was actually sympathetic in a very similar vain to Baldur, in that while we obviously aren't meant to agree with her goals, we can still sympathize with her circumstances.

@TresBS1

To be fair, Icarus and Helios weren't entirely Kratos' fault. With Icarus, Kratos was minding his own business when Icarus told him to turn back. Kratos actually tries to ignore Icarus, who just keeps getting in front him and shouting about how he and his wings will make it to the Sisters of Fate. The fight begins when Kratos decides that Icarus is right and he needs those wings. If Icarus had never approached Kratos, simply let him pass and never gloated about his wings, Kratos would never have fought with him. With Helios, he actually tried to bargain as Helios owed him. He demands to know where the Flame of Olympus is and Helios mocks him and the goal. When Kratos threatens him for that, Helios tried to blind him. When that fails and Kratos begins to beat the crud out of him, Helios tries to lie and trick Kratos by telling him to step into the Flames, which would kill him. Kratos calls him out on that BS as Hephaestus already warned him about the Flames. Helios then tries to discredit Hephaestus, calling him a 'freak'. When Kratos isn't convinced Helios just remains defiant until Kratos rips his head off. In the end, Icarus was confrontational from the start and persisted even after Kratos tries like twice to just leave. Helios was arrogant and even lied to Kratos' face. Ultimately, both had chances to maybe walk away but dug their own graves.

I like how kratos only kills Baldur as a last resort. Even after he tried to kill him and kidnap his son kratos still gave Baldur a chance both at the beginning and end. He actively avoided conflict as much as he could and only fought in self defense and did the safety of those around him. It shows he really isn’t the same man he was before and after Baldur is given back what he lost he still refuses to let go and tries to kill freya. It’s a petty act of vengeance that tells kratos he won’t change so he does what he feels must be done for the good of everyone: end the cycle.

Not to mention Kratos gets stronger with age and if I remember correctly game director said that Kratos stops himself from going full out in this game. So yeah, if not for Baldur's curse/blessing and Kratos rejection of his real strength. Baldur would be turned into bloody pulp. Fighting young Kratos was almost impossible but now? With expirience, control over himself and his ACTUAL strength? Let's pray something keep Aesir safe if they want to hurt Atreus. We saw what happened when Thanatos killed Kratos brother

The battle with Thor went even further. If you read Kratos' diary entries, he himself says that he has never received blows of such power. I absolutely love the first fight with Baldur, the soundtrack perfectly serenades every part of the fight and adds to the sense of urgency and what is at stake if Kratos loses. Every one of Baldur's attacks is accompanied with a crazed cry of hate as he continues to get more and more angry and frustrated. and the combination of the soundtrack, Baldur striking at you with flurries of viscous blow while he's screaming like some kind of rabid animal and the environment around you being ripped apart by your cataclysmic battle is truly epic.

Yeah, the comic shows him let wolves attack him until they get tired and leave, but they are interrupted by two trolls, and he tells the wolves to run, and then when the trolls attack him he tries to stay calm, but gives into his rage and kills both of them with his bare hands, I think he may have killed the wolves to, because at that point he was no longer in control, it even says in the comic the rage always takes over, so in the game whenever he goes into rage mode, I still don't think it is full power since as shown in the comic he can't control himself or really see what he is attacking anymore, he just destroys anything in his path.

@@jedour865 I think I can try to explain how it could be "the best" It's shows that kratos has truly learned from his past, that the price of godhood only robs you of everything and creates a cycle of vengeance that never end. And unlike zeus where he done it cause of the job and also the greater good in a sense, kratos only ends the cycle cause nothing good comes from being a god, and god of war shown some examples like kratos and the PTSD of his family that the greek gods didn't end (that's not including ascension since the furies weren't per say "gods") or baldur literally unable to feel _anything_ ,even the weather he feels unphased. Kratos tells atreus that they must be better by not making the same mistakes, especially in light of kratos past where he only felt remorse for his actions after he got his vengeance (mainly cause athena revealed that she used kratos only to rule olympus in zeus's place), who he was before wouldn't be his or atreus' future nor anyone elses. Yet it doesn't make him a hero of course cause in the end he hurts someone, in this case freya, kratos could have just walked away and not even bother but due to his own set of morals and beliefs he just said "fuck that" and acted on his own selfishness (which according to the game triggered ragnarok). Which makes freya being on par with kratos IMO that due to her curse she can't even be able to attack her son's killer, similarly to a degree how kratos is carrying two (maybe three) remnants that the greek gods cursed him with. The stained ashes of his wife and child etched into his skin, the scared chain marks as a reminder of the deal he made, and the blades of chaos as a permanent reminder of what kratos' vengeance cost. The heads of too many gods/mortals to count, and the destruction of the greek pantheon along with Greece itself.

I honestly feel sympathy for Baldur. Mans got literally a whole lifetime of worldly emotion ripped away by the person that cared for him the most. I have a lot of thoughts on this game. Just this alone feels like an entire game's worth of content, and if the story ended here many would be happy. Everything from the attention to detail to the unraveling story to the story telling itself. This game is truly magical, and easily one of the best I know out there. It doesn't have much replayability, but even still you can get a few playthroughs off without feeling bored or repetitive. The gameplay is so incredibly fluid, and well paced enough to not bog down the game, and although the puzzles can be frustrating they still act as a good pad for the rest of the game to sit on. And I don't even have to mention the graphics for you to see that they're amazing.

Actually considering Kratos got his ass whooped multiple times by Baldur and couldn't even manage to hurt him until his son had to weaken him and STILL fought him with the help of his son, i'd say on even footing. Baldur would've whooped dat ass.

@prod gbc You're comparing Greek Gods to Norse ones, though. And perhaps you didn't notice how Baldur was toying with him a lot and still whooping ass after everything Kratos was throwing at him, and instead just decided to say "oh but muh Greek gods and Titans". You're comparing two different mythologies, and by the way the developers made the fights go it was clear that Baldur was superior.
@MinerJB

@@haystackbill6187 Baldur was superior only because of the shit his mom did too him. Can't die, feels no pain, does not get tired, injuries have little to no effect on him. He had advantages over kratos. Once baldur was weakened it was a evening playing Field and Baldur lost..

I like how when kratos unleashed the rage of gods baldur was completely thrown off, he didn't realize kratos was a god and when he started to use godlike power it just completely caught him unawares. even when he's losing he still doesn't realize that kratos is a god.
