In Greek mythology “Chaos” is the ultimate primordial being and by far the most powerful in all of Greek mythology, surtr seeing those blades knew that the blades surpassed the requirements of combining to make ragnarok. the blades of chaos are as powerful as a primordial being
@KittyMaverick
Жыл бұрын
Originally, for Ragnarok to come to be, both Surtr and Sinmara must die. From the conversation, I think we can infer that to create Ragnarok, we must combine primordial fire and primordial ice. Since Surtr says that Sinmara's heart is primordial ice, we can infer that primordial fire would have been Surtr's heart. But if we used Surtr's heart, Sinmara would die (since they swapped hearts and all). So while Surtr agrees that Odin (and Asgard by extension) is due for a whopping, he won't help if it means Sinmara dying. (Probably wouldn't have agreed even if she says yes.) As Surtr pointed out, the request is equivalent to anyone asking Kratos to sacrifice Atreus. No way in the nine realms for any cause is that an acceptable option. The Blades of Chaos, as it turns out, can act as the primordial fire component of Ragnarok in place of Surtr's heart. Once charged up and combined with Sinmara's heart (which Surtr has), Ragnarok can be created. This means Sinmara won't need to die for Ragnarok to be created, only Surtr. And that's why Surtr changed his mind. So long as Sinmara is "left out of this", he is willing to give his life for the cause of creating Ragnarok.

If you see the story that when they "merge" there are loving eachother, I submit to you he "merged" with the blades of chaos. I imagine a rom com where he nicks the blades to love them

I was under the impression that Kratos WAS Ragnarok. I mean “God Killer”…seemed a lotta sense at the time.

Let me preface this with the fact that I’m not even a gamer (last system I bought was the original Wii console, what - 20 years ago?). That being said, this game looks astonishingly good, from the amazing graphics (ofc) & the incredible story/world building they were able to accomplish. I’ve watched dozens of hours of gameplay from this franchise, and I’m not kidding I’ve been considering getting a PS5 just to play the two most recent GOW titles. I think I should just get it over with, as I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s last year, and I’m only 34 years old. I want to experience things that requiring manual dexterity before I lose permanent control of my limbs. It’s already taken everything from me, so I might as well have things to do when I’m stuck at home, as it’s only a matter of time before my drivers license is taken away due to persistent seizures. No worries, nobody will see this lololol

I really hated Loki's line when he said "you got so much to live for" to him.. I mean the whole reason why he is doing this is because someone close just died in front of him, yet he has no issue telling someone to literally commit suicide for Loki's sake. kinda came outta nowhere.

Why’s he laughing? Because of the power flowing through him? The prophecy being fulfilled and his wait being over? The fact that Sinmara doesn’t have to die?

The only thing I don't get is WHY did they have to do this, when ultimately it was Atreus, Freya and Kratos who ended up really killing Odin?
@JulfyJD

They needed someone to take on the Asgard forces to leave Odin open for ambush

His purpose was to destroy Asgard not specifically kill Odin although destroying Asgard would in turn kill Odin as it was implied in the prophecy

Even in the original myth Odin was killed by Fenrir, Surtur purpose is to destroy Asgard, not Odin, and bringing the biggest guy to the table also forces Asgard forces to fight him instead of them 3 and their "army"

He only didn't want to help because the transformation into Ragnarok (according to the prophecy) would mean the death of the one he loved. Once he found an alternative method that didn't require Sinmara's death, he took it without hesitation

The blades of chaos seems it was made for breaking fate hence chaos can't be controlled by prophecy because chaos can't be controlled.
