I'm immensely proud to be able to post this remarkable work. Lol Creme and Kevin Godley produced their ground-breaking 3-LP set 'Consequences' in 1977. This is the project the duo left the successful 10cc in order to focus on; it was met with critical and public consternation. It began life as a demonstration record for the extraordinary versatility of the Gizmo - their ingenious guitar attachment that allowed strings to be bowed separately for sustained notes. Peter Cook was brought in to render the concept of nature and the elements battling against mankind as a playlet, featuring him playing four of the five characters. And it's my favourite album of all time.
With huge thanks to The Strawberry Archive, we've had access to the master tapes for sides 2 to 6. And they sound incredible! The audio for side 1 has been taken from the 1991 German CD release, whose sound is closest to that of the original masters.
Engineered and mixed by Martin Lawrence
Strawberry Studios, Stockport, 1976-77
The Manor, Oxfordshire, 1977
Mastered by Melvyn Abrahams at IBC Studios, London on 12th September 1977
No EQ, compression or noise reduction have been used in these recordings. The Revox PR99 tape machine that was used in these transfers has no Dolby facility unfortunately, so these tapes don't sound precisely as was intended. However, what we hear in this video is a 48k digitisation of this great record with all of the dynamic range originally committed to tape.
It was digitised on 22nd August 2021 at 24-bit, 48k. The five tapes were played on a Revox PR99 and digitised on an Apple Mac running Logic Pro X. Source audio in full fidelity will be available to subscribers of the Consequences 10cc podcast. consequences.podbean.com/
