Great review, Paul. About the remote. You have set it to 5600K to lower the brightness level to 10%! That's because it's a generic remote. I have a Godox P260C LED Panel where you use the same remote and on the P260C you can also change the colour temperature from 3300K to 5600K. The best thing is that I can group my SL-60W and my P260C and control them with the same remote if I want to. The colour temperature will of course be daylight temperature at 5600K then because the SL-60W is fixed at that. 😊

Pro tip - I bought myself a portable battery power supply from Amazon - www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08G1QWH97/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It works perfectly with this light. I can plug the light into the AC outlet on the power supply and run the light outside on location. The listing says it runs on gasoline lol - it doesn't. It's Lithium-Ion batteries. It outputs a pure sine wave which makes it perfect for LED lights. The UK version only has one AC outlet but you can connect and extension lead. I haven't fully tested how long the battery lasts though, it's lasted long enough for what I've used it for so far. You can be conservative and turn off the light in-between takes. Because it is 300w, I can connect and extension lead and run multiple SL60Ws (as long as they don't collectively exceed 300w). But I guess battery life would be drastically shortened running multiple lights off of one power supply. I would definitely buy more as it is very handy outside of filming too, as emergency power for camping etc.

Very thorough review and straight to the point--just subbed to your channel! Question about the softbox: would you say that the 42 in softbox would be a big improvement over the 34 in model in terms of softness / light quality? If I understand correctly, the Aputure Light Dome II is 35 in, so the 42 in is even bigger. I'm trying to set up a YT talking head desk setup in my home office and I'm not sure if the 42 in model is too deep. Do you happen to know the depth of the softbox?
@PaulHeimlund
3 жыл бұрын
The 42 in is huuuuge! There’s very little difference between the 42 and 34 inch in functionality. I’m actually getting the 34 inch soon, as the 42 takes up way to much space. Not sure about the depth, but if it’s for talking head at home, I’d go for the 34 in. You’ll thank me later ;) Thanks again!
@BackpackingVideos
3 жыл бұрын
@@PaulHeimlund Ah I see. One more question if you don't mind: I see in your description you have linked a "smaller softbox" which is 35 inches in diameter but much deeper like the Light Dome ii from Aputure, whereas the 34 inch one I was referencing is the smaller version of what you have in this video (42 inch softbox). Do you think you will end up with the smaller version of what you currently have or would the deep parabolic 35 inch softbox be better in terms of light quality? Space is important, but I also want the best quality of light, so I'm undecided between the two. Thank you!

@@BackpackingVideos Sure! There has been tests done on the effect a parabolic softbox has, compared to a normal, flatter one and there’s no difference. Such a great review - thank you! I am a still photographer just starting out offerring short 1-3 minutes branding videos for my clients as well. I am looking for a video light I can use both for a food/product photography (as a supplement to my strobes: Godox AD600 + AD200) as well as for a bit of video work. QUESTION 1: Do you think the (newer) ML60 will be powerful enough to help me make short branding videos - could be a ceramist working in different spots in her workspace - some close ups, some takes further away, but typically not far away in a huge room. I would like to be able to make a bit of slowmotion but this will typically be very close to the subject so I could bring the light close to it. QUESTION 2: Would the SL150ii be a better choice you think? Price difference isn't big where I live. Of course I would prefer the portability and light weight/small size of the ML60 but would hate to see myself upgrading to the 150watt after a while because of power limitations. You seem to have a great experience and take on the Godox 60 watt and would really appreciate your opinion. Thank you a lot in advance - very great video from you 🙏🏻

To those wondering, the ML60 is at or above the output power of the SL-60w.

I ordered mine today. After ordering the light, I saw that it was not good enough for slow motion in some videos. But this video has convinced me that it will suffice to what I need. Thanks so much! Edit--- Awesome video! Very apple the way it's layed out🤗

Appreciate the section on still photography as that's my primary. I already have my light modifiers for my flash gear (GODOX) so being able to use them with the SL60W will be nice.

thanks for the effort and sharing. on your video, how close was the edge of the light modifier to you? think you can remember f/stop and iso used? thumbs up.

Cheers! The softbox was about 4ft away. The f stop was most likely 2.8 and the iso 400 :)

Great video! I have two SL60Ws and need to get some softboxes.. One note for you - if you change the colour temperature one the remote to 5600K, it will go all the way down to 10%. It’s silly as the lights are fixed at 5600K, but it fixes the 25% bug nonetheless!

Hi and congratulations for the very clear video. Could you help me with one thing? I am planning to buy a green screen (3 metre large, 6 tall) and I was wondering how many lights I need? This green screen is supposed to film one or two persons with no particular actions, most of the time sitting. Do you think that two sl60 to enlight the screen and one Sl 60 for the subject are enought? Or should I consider a sl 100 or 150 for the subject? Thanks a lot and good luck
@PaulHeimlund

Hey! If you have the budget I’d go for 4 sl-60. Two for the screen, one for the subject, and one rim light to separate the subject better from the green screen. If the subject is more than 2 meters from the main light, you might need the stronger sl 150. Hope this helps ;)

@@PaulHeimlund Thanks Paul, this definitely help and first of all thanks for replaying me! So, I would definitely go for two SL60 for the screen. Do you suggest that for the subject two lights would be enough, 1x SL60 as key light (or 150 if distanze from subject from screen is more than 2 m) and 1x SL 60 as hair/backlight? Do you think that is such a situation a 3rd light as fill light could not be necessary? Again, 1000x THANKS :-)
@PaulHeimlund

@@fulviotrincacolonel6056 No problem, mate! If you have a nice big softbox on the key light, it should be enough. You could use a reflector as a fill “light”. If your budget allows it you could go for a 3rd sl-60 for the subject as a fill light, just to be on the safe side ;)
