Dirty or not at least you have powder. Here in Canada we can't get powder since Goex quit and the other guys can't fill the hole left from Goex yet. Maybe by 2023 or 24 I have been told. I am watching your and Hoffman channel very closely at your results. I shoot flintlock and need black powder for priming. I use triple 7 for main charge cleaner and more power. Keep up the great work guys. Their is no one making black powder in Canada and has to be ordered once a year from USA. Right now 60.00 CA a pound.

@duacot6633

Right on! I am so glad someone finally did this. Willow is chosen for pyro because of the carbon and soot that produces a nice visual presentation when it's burning. All around it's an excellent source of wood to make all your BP when used for pyro regardless of it being lift, burst, or rammed for gerbs and rockets. Use some straw. Can get straw bedding for animal pens. Seal it in paint can, stab an 3/16-1/4 " hole in the top to vent gases and throw it in a fire until the gases cook off. I put a nickel or quarter over the hole when I hear it stop hissing and after the flame burns off. It's delicate stuff. Grapevines should provide a similar result and was the choice for many years due to it's availability. Grapevines and straw are good for pyro if primarily used for non visual affects. Believe Napoleon used grapevine for the charcoal in BP.

Hello sir. You have made a very nice black classic smoke powder. You compare your work with companies that have been making black smoke classic gunpowder for many years. But these companies have equipment, tools, work technologies, preparation which are their company secret and for that they get a little pollution. It's like comparing cars Honda Accord 7 and Bentley, Roserose, Maybach. Bentley, Rose Royce, Maybach have always been and always will be better cars than the Honda Accord 7. But the Honda Accord 7 is a good enough car to compete with elite cars. If you also make black powder for 50, 100 years, you will be able to make it with less pollution. Because you will develop and improve even in your work. So these companies have been making black powder for 50, 100 years, and perhaps for much longer. And you started making black powder some other year on your own. So it is normal for you to have more pollution in your work. But don't worry, you will improve, you will develop. But the work will not be done from today to tomorrow, it will take more time. I wish you success in your work. Be able to discover the secrets that companies don't want to share. Do you know how much secret knowledge there is that is not shared and has never been shared so that only certain people can profit. And one day you may be able to discover new knowledge. You may be able to discover new knowledge that someone in America or outside of America once discovered but did not share and died with the secrets for one reason or another. You are sympathetic to me. You look to me like an actor who played the role of a guard in one of the American movies with the terminators and Arnold Schwarzenegger, but let's not dance too much, not to drool, but to be more serious about things, because after all, the work is worthwhile and responsible, specific skills, attention, precision, patience are required until it is done correctly successfully. I wish you all the best, sir. I wish you success and happiness.

I just ordered some of that aussie willow. It’s a hybrid of white and weeping willow. If it has the water, it’s reported to grow up to ten feet per year. If water isn’t scarce, willow grows fast. Several species could be grown and tested if you have the space and two years to spare for the project. If one works better than others, it can be harvested yearly if the roots are well established. (like basket makers do.) Cottonwood, aspen and poplar might make good candidates. I saw this after another video where you mentioned some brand cooks their wood at a lower temperature to make their charred coal. I'm guessing here, but I would presume that the goal is to drive off volatiles and other not just carbon stuff, leaving you with pure carbon. But that after some particular temperature the ready to burn form turns to soot, or some form of carbon that won't combust. Essentially turning it to fowling before you fire it. I know there are some technical terms, jargon, that I'm missing here, but I hope you can look past that shortcoming and understand what I'm trying to convey there. Anyway, idk what altropes or forms of carbon are important here, but perhaps some experiments with lab grade super pure stuff could be fruitful. Or you could get an electric kiln or something and make some batches of charcoal at various temperatures. And various woods! I feel like a chunk of balsa would be a good water filter. Assuming it keeps it's form it would have high surface area and adsorb stuff very well.

@@Everythingblackpowder Yes, the Brown Bess. I noticed you had lost alot of velocity on those shots. I may have misheard you I thought you said paper-patched roundball. I typically use about 110 grains for target practice but the service charge was 165 grains. (though you do lose a few of those for priming) I use a 69 caliber ball for ease of ramming in a paper cartridge but I have been thinking about upping to 72 because I've noticed it's not quite as accurate as it could be, it always tends to pull to the right of the target.

@@Shadowmourne07 I see, I was using a .735 ball with a .010 cotton patch with 80gr of homemade powder in the Bess. That ball weighs 580gr, I thought 1000+ FPS for a that heavy of a ball and that light of powder charge was pretty good.

@@Everythingblackpowder Yep that is good all considering. Where did you get the .735 mold? Lee only goes up to .69 as far as I've seen

@@Everythingblackpowder i meant for cleanliness. Ive accumulated over 60 different types of woods to try out for both energy and cleanliness. All the research I've done over the years about black powder has me wondering a few things. Mostly the fact that people use what is available to them, and sometimes it seems alot of the literature about HM powder has come from places where willow is plentiful. Point being, I feel like willow is the best in regards to the particular area alot of literature came from. I do however think there are alot of other woods that are just as good or better ((cleanliness wise)) I've found that even the the way the charcoal is made and the wood prepared can make a huge difference in B rate. Ive made powders that are extremely fast out of cheap 2×4s that i leech and then let sun bake a few seasons and get stone hard. Some of the cleanest burning powder ive ever made was from a large piece of drift wood I found on the beach. It was very fast and had little to no residue. I am not telling you how to do things, please dont think so. Im just sharing as one hobbyist to another. I feel like there is alot of types of wood that have been overlooked. If you have an email id love to exchange with you and maybe even send you some of my samples of wood to try yourself after ive found what seems desirable. Thank for your videos and keeping this valuable art accessible to future generations. -Bud
