Hi, now we grow all our strawberry plants from seed, several years ago our strawberry-clone-army patch collapsed all at once, it started as three plants in 2007. It went to 20 and 140 and a thousand, then the runners started to pile on themselves, the same thing happened to our neighbors strawberry patch a few years before, all at once. Now, all from seed, from every variety we can get, it's been a few dry years to drought here as well, and I can easily go a month in summer without watering the garden, it has to take care of itself. The strawberry seedling trays sure, but miss a few days and the plants thin themselves out better and faster than I can go through them, it saves water, and finds the ones with sparse roots automatically. Also we grow moss in all the strawberry seed trays, it keeps the soil perfect, no more soil-cement from constant pounding from rain and sun. Good to see you have a youtube now~

Yes! Freedom to just love growing food! I received my seeds yesterday from going to seed and can’t wait for this spring. I intend to let the plants be themselves and will save seeds to give back. Also, I’m on the last chapter of Joseph’s book and boy am I inspired!

Before reading Joseph's book I had like 42 small bags with onion varieties alone. Today I have four. White, red, spring, winter. What a relief ;) My squashes are getting better when I focus on their taste, not on collecting varieties. It is a serious mind shift.

You know I’ve spent quite a bit of time over the past four years trialing different varieties to find the ones that work best in my area… literally hundreds of varieties. it just dawned on me I’ve been doing it all wrong. I should’ve just grew them all save the seeds and select like you. I guess I’ll start this year. Thanks for reminding me I’m being stupid: 😜

lol... I saw these videos a few days ago and thought wow! I've got a whole side of my house that only just started getting weeds cause it doesn't get a lot of light. And then the light went off in my head and now I'm looking for things that will grow there in low light and benefit me... and just start tossing and having fun :p

We've been saving seeds for probably 6 years now. We have been trying to keep the squashes separate, i.e., pepo over here, the other pepo WAY over there to avoid the cross breeding...but this year we've discussed it, and will just grow them all together to see what we get. Thanks for the inspiration.

Hooray! Chaos gardening. Plants produce so many seeds that I like to just broadcast an area and see what happens.

I heard you mention male sterility in some varieties of brassicas ( I think it was brassicas). How do I know which ones are bred for this? I'd like to see if I can get a few to adapt to my warmer temps. I see some in plant sites that say they're more heat tolerant or slower to bolt. I'd like to start with those varieties but they are usually hybrids. I usually stick with OP and heirlooms. How do I know which varieties are bred for male sterility so I can avoid them? Do I just avoid any hybrid seed from the seed sites?
