steves determination is sickening .... him and cracknell tbf looked like they were about to pass out... pass out after just 5 odd minutes of rowing. THATS INTENSITY!

Pinsent is a freak, he doesn't look remotely tired after pulling 5:42.

Redgrave: an amazing career and in my eyes the most deserving olympian

Steve's time was 6:05, and he was coming out of a big sugar crash. How he even finished the thing is beyond me. I don't think my 1k split is as good as his 2k split here, which was a very poor time for Redgrave.

@COOPZILON Awesome! Anyone who pulls a sub-6 should be in the national news! The general public have no idea what an achievement that is.

@BodomChildBreeder I always say to people who think rowing isn't a sport to watch this video. I can't think of any other sport that demands this much team syncronicity, power, and intensity that leaves you EXHAUSTED at the end.

Three things that stand out in this part of the episode, 1) universal dislike for erg tests, 2) pairs races amongst crews being the best races 3) there is no swearing? (very unusual).

@Jong Kwon - same here mate 7:26 is my best in over 5 years on the C2 regularly. Rowing is extremely demanding and always harder than people think coming into it from other sports

5 years and still not under 7?? You have to train a lot harder. My first year I got down to 7:06 then next season I got my first sub 7

The drama that these guys face is so much like the drama I've seen even as just a high school rower....Jesus I hate when we split up into doubles/fours because this same stuff happens...great video series though

@madsfr206 I know that Steve was pulling 5:51 in 1998. No doubt he's been faster considering his age then, and being diabetic. Not sure about the others.

I believe that Pinsent went 5:42.3, and Redgrave went 6:05. Not sure about Tim or James though. I'd say in the 5:40's for James, and in the 5:50's for Tim.

massively late reply and you probably know the answer to this now, but on this test Steve pulled 6:10 which was the slowest that day. His pb was 5:46 which he set in 97. Pinsent dud 5:42 which at the time was the 2nd quickest ever (behind waddell) and a new british record, and cracknell pulled 5:46.9 which at the time was his pb. Pretty sure Pinsent never went quicker than that but im not sure whether Cracknell did in the Athens olympiad. Foster did 5:53.4, pb 5:51.9. Source: 4 men in a boat.
