It's perfectly legal to use a Highbankers in NSW, Australia. Highbankers or sluice box alone is not illegal. The use of motorize or mechanical pump in highbanking is what's illegal. The mining act 1996 and the pump moving the water from A to B is covered by the water management act 2000. Cheers

Found this combination to be the most efficient. The expanded metal is not your typical aluminium expanded. It is in actual fact expanded roof access grate which can be sourced from any of your commercial roofers. The sides of this mesh are vertical and not angled and this makes it a lot more efficient on fine flour gold, because of the bigger vortex it creates. Best of luck!....Wal

hi Scott... thanks for watching. This is one of the many gold bearing streams within an hours drive from where we live. It's a popular area as it has mainly flour gold which was very difficult for the old timers to clean out. Every flood replenishes the gold and it is not uncommon to get around 5 grams of gold for an easy days hi banking. this would probably equate to around a cubic meter per 5 grams. On a really good day we get as much as 10 grams. Good luck on your local streams...Cheers Wal.

G'day 234...the place is Oallen Ford on the Shoalhaven River. Its at the crossing between Neriga and Tarago. You'll find quite a few people there on the weekends but it is quite a large area that can accommodate a big crowd. We mainly Hi-Bank but if you haven't got one a standard river sluice would be the next best thing ...you'll also need a gold pan, 1/4" sieve, and a shovel. Try downstream where the rock bars cross the river....the opposite bank to where you can drive is best..Cheers Wal.

@tfa40729...Trevor, thanks for your constructive input. We set the gold catching section of our high banker into 2 different configurations, hence the 2 mats on the top section of the high banker. The 1st mat traps all the coarse gold, the 2nd mat traps all the fine flour gold. The lower section of the high banker, is used only for trapping sapphires hence no mats and no clean up shown. We feel it's not necessary to show each mat separately as they both combine to do the same thing....see cont.

Thanks for your concern sepfirem. We always double pan our first run and never have more than a couple of specks in the 2nd pan. Once you yourself become efficient at gold panning then maybe you will also be able to speed up a little yourself. Again, thanks for your concern but unfortunately, we do not lose any gold for you to pan behind us....Cheers, Wal

Your best set up to start looking for gold would be a standard river sluice and a gold pan. If the bug get strong enough, convert the river sluice to a high banker by adding the water pump. This will increase the amount you get tenfold. Best of luck. Cheers, Wal

thanks for watching....a mate of mine has one of those "Marks" drop riffle sluices and working side by side with us ends up with half of what we get....problem with them is they fill up too quickly with black sand and as Oallen has only flour gold much of it washes through. If you clean them out every hour or so it helps. Cheers Wal.

Thanks for watching kim and hope you enjoyed the vid.A lot of the areas around here are Basalt based with a lot of black Spinel. These unfortunately are not magnetic so we have to do it the hard way. A good hi banker will pick up every bit of gold.....the amount of water is regulated by the size of the box. the one shown runs at its optimal performance and catches even the smallest flour gold. Our system runs the classifier full length of the box as we use it for sapphires as well. You may be getting confused by seeing no water running on the top box.....It's going through the classifier and over the trap underneath....Cheers Wal.

You don't need a permit or license to prospect in NSW. Good idea to make your hi-bank set up as light as possible. Most of the best spots require at least a kilometer walk. The hi-banker you see in the video is a combination for gold and sapphires. Our gold only hi-banker has only one tier and is much more portable than the one you see. Best of luck and C U in the field one day. Cheers, Wal

You two are great. Looks like you are having a great time. Thanks for posting. Try screening your cons or classifying as they say in the US before you pan. It really does make the panning process easier. My wife and I get a kick out of finding pickers in the screens when we look through the screened material. We kind of race each other looking around to find a piece of gold and giggle like kids when we do.

One suggestion, classify your material down further when working with very fine gold, it saves you a hell of alot of panning strokes, maybe #50 or even #100 mesh, you can save those #50+ers and pan them separately. Nice simple set up!

@highwaycruiser..4oz. for 6hrs.? We average 4gm. in about the same time. We've had talks with Rangers who are not Mine Wardens and have explained to them the rules we have discussed with the mines department. Using a water pump is not illegal as it would also have to relate to the legalities of farmers pumping water to their household tanks. You are shoveling the material manually and not using mechanical means to move the material. It's a gray area that has never been challenge in a court.
@WalnLiz

Thanks for the comment. We find it unnecessary to classify, as we are only panning off the concentrates at the end of the session. When we have a lot of gold, we double pan to speed up the process. On average, a daily clean up, usually takes us no more than 10 minutes and find that we lose an insignificant amount of gold.....cheers and thanks for watching.

This river only produces fine "flour" gold....which made it extremely difficult for the old timers to clean it out....hence it's relatively easy to get your 3 to 5 grams a day. The majority of rock bars are replenished with gold after every flood. It's one of the best rivers to practice your panning on as it's not the easiest gold to recover.

Hi Ian... haven't done a great deal in the New England area but i know of people who have done really well there. There is also a lot of gemstones especially in the form of sapphires, garnets, topaz associated with the gold up that way. My advice is google up Bonzle.com and go to your local area and it will show you all the gold mines there. Look for creeks that feed off these mines ..especially the alluvial areas and give preference to faster draining creeks with plenty of bedrock..Cheers Wal.
