An adaptation of Von Waltenhofen’s pendulum, gold and silver testing has never been so simple. Test krugerrand gold coins, test maple gold coins, test eagle gold coins, test philharmonic gold coins, test Brittannia gold coins, test sovereign gold coins, test vreneli gold coins, test libertad gold coins, test buffalo gold coins. All gold and silver coins and bars can be tested including fractionals.
The device measures the electromotive force generated by the gold or silver metal, using faradays law of induction. A Von Waltenhofen’s pendulum will induce an Eddy current into a paramagnetic metal, both gold and silver are paramagnetic, the number of oscillations of the pendulum are proportional to the conductivity of the bullion. This is because the more conductive the bullion the larger the Eddy current induced in it. The great thing about this test is that it can be done through blister packs and slabs. A common method to counterfeit is to plate tungsten in gold the coin in the video is plated with 60 microns of gold. The conductivity of tungsten can be easily identified using the EON gold tester however.
Detailed description of test:
A gold or silver coin or bar is placed under the pendulum, the pendulum is placed in its launch position, the user releases the pendulum and the counter counts the oscillation. The user then looks up the coin or bar and compares the final count of the pendulum to the supplied list of expected counts. Simple as can be.
How does it work?
The apparatus uses a repeatable pendulum, the pendant is a strong neodymium magnet the magnetic field points downwards on the z axis. The Austrian physicist Von Waltenhofen created an experiment where a number of diamagnetic plates of different geometry’s were sung through a strong magnetic gate, the magnetic gate damped the motions of the pendulums differently depending on there shape and geometry. Here is a link to a great technical paper on the experiment results

For those of you who prefer a video explanation, this is a good explanation
• Eddy Currents and Magn...
The EON Gold Cradle switches the experiment around, instead of having a moving diamagnetic plate, the gold and silver bullion which are diamagnetic are stationary, while the magnet moves over the bullion. As the magnet moves over the bullion a changing magnetic field over the surface of the bullion introduces circulating currents into the bullion (which is highly conductive by nature) these currents are commonly referred to as Eddy currents. There is a transfer of energy from the pendulum to the coin, don’t worry this will not damage your coin in anyway, the currents create a damping force on the pendulum known as an electromotive force. This force will reduce the number of oscillations the pendulum has over the coin. So for example if the pendulum is released without a coin under it on this prototype we get 150 oscillations, an alloy coin like the coin in the video that is composed of 91.66% gold, 3.33% silver and 5% copper will dampen the oscillations to around 60 oscillations, the fake coin in the video dampens the oscillations down to 36 this is because there is some nickel in the coin and because it has a tungsten core, it should be noted that an alloyed coin is significantly less conductive than a pure gold coin. The pre gold coin will dampen the oscillations to around 30 oscillations. We tested several different types of .9999 percent one ounce gold coins, they all dampen the oscillations to 30, the Austrian philharmonic coin due to its unique geometry having a larger diameter and a thinner coin, dampens the pendulum slightly more, to a reading around 28. This is because more of the surface is exposed to the changing magnetic flux from that coin. The readings we got from various coins are listed in the video. We have added a margin for error to the readings, however in our experiments the variance can be as little as zero over 10 readings. As we develop the product we hope to engineer out any variance.
