So I stayed at my grandparents' home A LOT growing up. We would watch this and Designing Women religiously. Which, looking back on it, was pretty amazing as they were devout Catholics & conservatives. They loved those shows. After my grandpa passed unexpectedly when I was in 8th grade I moved in with my grandma to be there for her and these shows were a connection & very healing in a way. ❤️❤️❤️ And yes they would crack up & ad-lib...it was the best show.

Bea Arthur and Rue McClanahan worked together before in the popular 70s sitcom "Maude", a spin-off of "All in the Family". Bea played the title character and Rue was her friend Vivian. Like All in the Family, it tackled serious issues of the day with humor. It's worth a watch.

Golden Girls is one of my all-time favorite shows. It's on Hulu and I'll binge-watch it when I need a good laugh. It has an evergreen type of humor for sure! 😂The cast was perfectly chosen for natural chemistry and Dorothy/Sophia's comebacks and savage remarks never fail to get a laugh out of me. ☺

Boy, what a cast of characters...One of the best casts to give late-night giggles during a 'Marathon Series' before restful sleep even when sad, upset or worried. Hilarious!!! Don't know how many times of viewing any particular show and still funny after all these years.

What a funny classic show! The Golden Girls ran from 85-92. It was made up of a great group of 4 talented ladies. Sadly none of them are alive anymore. We lost Betty White at the end of 2021. Great we have this sitcom to carry on their legacy. Interesting that Estelle Getty who played Dorothy's mother Sophia was the 2nd youngest member of the group.

There was an episode where the four girls were discussing death. One of Rose's (Betty White) lines was "What happens when only one of us is left?" Ironically, she was the last to go.

As a toxically masculine straight male in his late 40s, I can vouch that this is one of the funniest shows ever written. I've been an unapologetic fan since the 80s. They even had a sequel "The Golden Palace" and a spinoff "Empty Nest"

I've binge watched this show so many times and I'm sure I will again in the future. I recall watching it for the first time when I was a kid in the 80s sick at home. I think that's when I discovered it. Not sure where it streams nowadays, I have all the episodes on my hard drive lol, but am sure it's on some platforms, it's a classic.

This is one reaction that confused me. Jamel just not feeling it (?) and/or appearing to not understand the jokes or the hot topics of the mid to late 1980s.... involving women. Elder women. I was 14 when this programme aired and would spend my entire Saturday dinnertimes glued to the telly for this show.... throughout my high school years (even skipping out on parties, except for paddling races). As well as 227" and "Empty Nest". I metaphorically laughed my arse off at each episode and still do. Akin to my love for "Three's Company", "What's Happening", and "The Jeffersons" becos John Ritter, Danielle Spencer, and Marla Gibbs' respective characters were off the chain in terms of bringing-down-the-house comedic timing on their respective shows.

Bea Arthur (born Bernice Frankel) enlisted in the Marine Corps Women's Reserve in 1943, becoming one of the first women in the newly-opened reserves. She served stateside, first as a typist at Marine HQ in D.C., then transferred to the Motor Transport (Motor-T) School at Camp Lejeune, where she was a truck driver and dispatcher there and in nearby Cherry Point. She made Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged after the war's end in September 1945. She had married another Marine, last name of Aurthur and she kept the name after the divorce but dropped the extra "u." She was 5'9" tall.
