She kept a straight face through the whole thing, while she and her friend both sipped at the same time. She wouldn’t get (seriously) mad over something so petty. If you do great, you are asked back and are put on the short lists for hosting other major awards shows. However, if you bomb awkwardly in front of probably a billion people worldwide -- well, you don't want to be the part of the awards show that people are talking about the next day! I promise you, Jo Koy is down in the dumps this morning -- and likely has even fired someone on his writing or managing staff.... although the real blame should be squarely on his own shoulders! Jo Koy is an amazing stand up but the room didn’t know him and he didn’t know them. I have seen him in California and all his shows on Netflix. But this isn’t his thing, stand up is a different type of gig. Jimmy Kimmel is treated with respect because they all have to go to his show to plug their films. Rickey Gervais is amazing and insults them all, has no mercy, takes no prisoners and they fear him so they laugh. Maybe they should just send the statue home with a thank you note and call it a day! Frankly they don’t deserve a ceremony.

Appreciate what the ladies are doing here, standing in solidarity with a loved and admired colleague. That said, he was not ready or fit for this gig! The jokes were crass, lazy, and in poor taste plus he casually threw his writers under the bus (classy). You need to know your audience and the caliber of the event you're playing in before accepting a job like this. Hosting gig is a hard but it's also a tremendous privilege and career milestone, if you take it lightly it's on you.

Oh c'mon guys; you're glossing over the fact that when Jo Koy was given the hosting gig, he had just 10 days to prep for event. ONLY 10 DAYS! Previous hosts like Ricky Gervais were given MONTHS to prepare! And yeah, you need that much time to craft material that will massage most of these celebrities' egos and not "offend" their inflated sense of entitlement. Celebrity commentator Melissa Rivers said that the Golden Globes is supposed to be a fun event. So everyone should lighten up, and not be a scowling and judgemental "Karen" (remember the Jada & Will Smith / Chris Rock incident?). Kudos to the two thespian legends Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro, who most probably knew and appreciated that Jo Koy gave his utmost best on such short notice. Meryl and Robert reciprocated Jo's efforts with grace and cordiality, both were truly class acts!

There are people on tiktok who have given examples of multiple jokes he couldve made instead, only a few hours after the show aired. A great comedian should not need that. It is supposed to be a fun event, so we should not reduce women to their boyfriends or boobs!

I’m a bit surprised by the ladies response to this. His jokes were offensive to women. Definitely read the room. Some of the biggest money makers at the movies were women-leading movies like Barbie and the Eras Tour movie. Taylor Swift and Beyoncé helped boost the economy with their tours. And Taylor’s reaction, um, I don’t see anything wrong with it. I mean, she didn’t jump up on stage and slug him. But I guess we didn’t learn anything from America Ferrara’s speech in Barbie. It’s literally impossible to be a woman.

I honestly think Jo Koy did okay that night. Wasn’t good, nor awful. Just okay. He sure felt like he was going through an uphill battle that night making sour grapes on topical subjects, but given this is his first hosting of an awards show, I’m going to cut him some slack. Not everyone had a clue who Jo Koy was, but I knew his standup comedy since 2010 and they’re incredibly hilarious. Perhaps he’ll learn from this hosting experience on what not to do when being involved in televised award ceremonies.
