What is the need of setting "K" value in every iteration?
@CivilEngineeringStuff
2 жыл бұрын
"k" is nothing but the iteration that we are working on and represent the step we are proceeding for simplicity. in practical scenarios, the computer simulation may go upto 100th iteration or even more..so to identify the resulting iteration or to know which iteration is showing error or repeating result etc. term "k" is input

sir, what if my tutor doesnt give E=250? what time should i stop? as far as i know he doesnt give us that
@CivilEngineeringStuff

The idea of small no. “E” is to have a criteria to eliminate the irrational. The more accurate you desire your outcome, the smaller E value will be. Here i have taken E=0.25, i could have also taken 0.01 for more accurate results. If Your tutor does not specifies E then some instructions regarding the iterations to perform and terminate the iteration would definitely be given, you have to follow those.

sorry but there are no instructions given in my question, let me show you the question : Q: Minimize the function f(x) = 4x^3 + x^2 -7x + 14 within the interval [0,1] using golden section method. @@CivilEngineeringStuff

What if small no is not given in the problem sir should we take 0.15 as standard value
@CivilEngineeringStuff
Жыл бұрын
E is nothing but the accuracy required. You can take 0.15 also, but then the iteration may be complete in the 5th stage. the number of function evaluations n required to achieve a desired accuracy ϵ is calculated by solving the following equation: [(0.618)^(n-1)]*(b-a) = E

what is the role of the k value in the golden search method, it seems didn't use in any formula?
@CivilEngineeringStuff
Жыл бұрын
"K" here is just a denotation to identify the iteration number/step. It helps to identify in how many iterations we got the solution. Also, after running the programm, if there is any error, or any modification need to be done, "k" value helps to identify the same.

In genral the "golden ratio" is a unique mathematical relationship. Two numbers are in the golden ratio if the ratio of the sum of the numbers (a b) divided by the larger number (a) is equal to the ratio of the larger number divided by the smaller number (a/b). In this method, the search space (a, b) is linearly mapped to a unit interval search space of (0, 1). Thereafter, two points at T from either end of the search space are chosen so that at every iteration the eliminated region is (1 − T) to that in the previous iteration. This is achieved by equating 1 − T with (T × T). This yields the golden number: T = 0.618
