I recommend Shubunkins for a pond. they look like Koi but are like normal goldfish and are all unique individual looking fish with the color patterns and ranges. they're shaped like normal goldfish too.

Thank goodness we provided one for our fish because a heron would stop by and pick them off we moved the pond away from the open yard but now they will not breed but that is OK they are safe! :) Some are half Koi half comet goldfish

Absolutely amazing video! I myself LOVE comet goldfish or any kind of goldfish for that matter. Your typical "carnival game prize" kind of dish. So underated! I have a 2-3 year old comet goldfish, 5-6 inches long and I find myself thinking more and more about just creating a large pond for him!

My favorites are the light orange/yellow ones, their colors aren't as 'harsh' as orange. The orange ones can be stunning too in an aquarium especially.

I have an actual goldfish, with golden colored scales. You have to understand, the prussian carp that these fish come from are normally silver colored, so when they started being bred as fish, the first colors to come out on these fish were gold. Hence the name, goldfish. Now, ACTUAL goldfish are pretty rare. You mainly have orange, red, black, and white.

You need to cover the pond with some kind of protection and put a rubber black snake by the pond as a scarecrow. I got a rubber snake on ebay that looks so real, it spooks me sometimes.

Just a suggestion: Water lily. Will give shelter to your goldfish against predators, will shade the surface so reduce the growth of algae and produces beautiful flowers. Nice pond.

Comets aren't commons, you have commons. Comets and shebunkens have long tails. Shebunkins are generally Tri colour and keep all their colours. comets are orange and white but lose the white as they get older. Lovely pond though, how many gallons or litres?

It's not the amount of gold fish that matters, it's the length of fish. Also depends on how good your filtration is (better = more fish length). Plenty of sites that will give you an estimation.

Jemma Donnelly considering single tail Goldfish grow to around 12" given the correct parameters, clean water and ample space, I totally agree, this pond is too small for that amount of Goldfish and is terribly overstocked.

If the water quality is good, the fish don't mind having a high population. People might be bugged by being around so many other people, but a schooling fish probably finds comfort in a crowd.
@babydonnaP
6 жыл бұрын
J R's Place the issue isn't really about the quality of water here though, the issue is goldfish grow to around 12" and not being given the right amount of size to swim/move/and grow it will stunt their growth.

I’m just starting how do you keep algae from overtaking everything only had my goldfish 3 weeks and the water is very green already?
@GeneHarm
4 жыл бұрын
Algae comes when you over feed and/or too much waste buildup. Make sure the fish are eating all the food and you clean out the filter frequently. However if you are just starting out it is normal for algae to come in while the water nutrients are balancing out. Nitrifying bacteria builds up and converts the nutrients. Eventual these nutrient levels go down and the algae will begin to clear. All these takes weeks. Its all about the nutrient levels being too high.
