Canned Heat was the first one to play it as a blues song that was improve by Norman 2 years later. The others just copy the tempo and played them with different instrument and a different speed. Yet, it is undeniable the complete similarity of her song with Norman's Spirit of the Sky. You know she is paying royalty to whoever has the copyright ownership from Spirit of the Sky.

I love Goldfrapp and have done for many years ever since I first heard Strict Machine, I guess that must be about 20ish years ago (I just Googled it and it came out in 2003, so I wasn't far off). I've met Alison and Will a few times (and I might add that she (Alison, sorry Will) is a beautiful in real life as she appears on screen but sadly, I would not be her cup of tea!) Anyway, the point of this comment was meant to be that occasionally I am asked to teach the odd person how to play a bit of bass. I'm not a teacher by a long way but one of the things I always suggest, is to find a song you like that is very simple to play and one that you can play along with it without needing to know very much (a genius and original method I know ;-)...). I say this as I find it gives you a bit of confidence if you can play a whole song and is less boring than learning scales etc (you still need to learn those btw!) I was teaching one of my daughter's friends (she was around nine or ten at the time) when we had her and her parents over for dinner one evening, and (egged on and accompanied by my daughter) she played along to a Gorillaz (I think) song in full. The look of absolute pride on her face was brilliant (almost as proud as her parents looked!) No mean feat for two very small girls, each playing one of my Rickenbacker 4003's (they looked both adorable and dwarfed in equal measure!) It doesn't matter if it's very easy or a super complicated Geddy Lee/Les Claypool/Stanley Clarke type thing (though to be honest, if you're a beginner and can do that, you need a much, much, much better teacher than me!), it's just fun to be able to do the whole thing and even a one one bassline, will teach you a bit about timing. Getting to the point, this is one of the songs I recommend as the bassline is simply (more or less, and don't worry about any pedals etc); A| -0-0-0-0-3-5-3-0-0-0-0, repeated. I think the original might have been played on a keyboard bass or similar but I am not sure.

Seiing this I went to listen to Adele's song but I see NO connection of any meaning other than both being sung by women. Differant melody, differant words but most importantly a totally differant energy and feel!

Almost all artists "Borrow" from older acts, it's just how it is.Check out Canned heat's on the road again You will hear almost the same hook and that was from the mid 60s or earlier if I'm not mistaken and you can be surse that they got it from someone even older.
@richarddickerson742

Very true.I know Canned Heat,Led . Zeppelin just won over Stairway when they showed some song that way wrote like 400 years ago or some shit sounded like their hook too. It does happen
