Nice, i just did this as mine were pretty much fully closed at the ends and full of dirt. Now they flow the water out as they should, finally no more wet c pillar and boot! Thanks for this.

Thanks for the help mine were very gunked up and smelly with damp beneath them. I got away with doing it just by pulling the trim around it back, was fiddly but got to it.

I've been looking for the culprit causing wet floors on the left side of a 2004 VW Golf MkIVR32. I was told the outlet of the rear sunroof drain would be found in the left wheel housing behind the plastic shield. I removed the shield but see no grommet drain outlet. So I tried the location shown in this KZitem video. Since I was looking for the driver's side (USA) outlet my view was limited by the amplifier for the Monsoon radio which was OEM equipment in the R32. I'm guessing I''m stuck with bumper removal to get to the end of the drain. During the process described here I came upon a very wet and icy spare tire well which may be a clue that absolves the common culprit of the sunroof drain. Any helpful comments will be welcomed.

Cheers, on the right my parking sensor control box was in the way so a bit more work for me. Big puddle of water too. edit: done, except the left rear hose wasn't even connected and was just draining down into the car.

What if it continues leaking after doing all that? Asking for the standing water in my spare tire well

If it’s the sunroof drains blocked then you’ll get a wet headlining around the sunroof. When the drains are blocked, the water collects in the gutters, and eventually fills them up until it has nowhere to go but over the top and down through the headlining. If you’ve got water in the spare wheel well, I would be looking at the tail light, cluster seals and tailgate seals. Sunroofs aren’t actually designed to be watertight. All the rubber seals do is slow the water enough that it can be collected in the channels on either side and be drained through these tubes. As long as the tubes are properly attached, I’d be looking in the boot (trunk area) for leaks. Old Volkswagens are terrible for rainwater leaks. At least it’s not like the Passat which lets water in behind the dash and takes out the alarm ECU.
