Another great video! There seem to be two general schools of swing theory out there today as it pertains to the downswing. One that presents the clubface to the ball through a more exclusively rotational movement, and one that while it is still somewhat rotational promotes a more early release of the arms. Watching Fleetwood as he comes into the ball around min 2:14, it looks as though there is very little release/straightening of the right arm, with his club coming to the ball primarily by an actual deepening of the left shoulder coming down. With Tiger at min 5:14, it looks like his left shoulder stays a bit more level coming down, and as the club reaches parallel to the ground there is more of a release of the angle - or straightening his right arm coming into the ball - and you see his hands begin to roll over right after impact. It seems that while they both incorporate the down and around movement of the left shoulder that you discuss in this video, there does seem to a bit of a difference between them. Especially as they come into the ball. Sorry, that was very winded - but for the average/ sometimes older less flexible golfer, I wonder if Tiger's (who has had back problems) move might be a little easier and more effective. Your thoughts?

Hey Steve! This is more complicated than I have time for at this second in a youtube comment. I will say the downswing shaft plane has a lot to do with that....hint hint.

The run up part is interesting, I’ve noticed at impact all the great ball strikers have a larger distance from the head to tip of left shoulder. Most amateurs including myself have a more jammed up look where the distance from head to right shoulder is greater than to the left. Loved this video it’s like a great movie every time I watch it I pick up on another key point!

This guy at the course today was telling me most amateurs front shoulders dont work down on the back swing bcs their shoulder plane tries to get level with the ground. He then said my shoulder wasn't working up n back on my follow through and that's why my divots are deep. Turns out the ol' S.O.B. was completely right!

Is Tommy Fleetwood really a good example? I love him and his style but he is almost super human dynamic in his movement. So why is he a good example? Awesome video. Shoulder rotation, along with other things but mainly shoulder rotation, has taken my golf game to a whole new level this season and a 7 lower handicap. Thanks :-)

Hey Eric, I'm stuck at step 2 (9.16 minutes into your tutorial); and was wondering if you had a check point / drill to measure that. I dont know where my body is supposed to be in space. On the "Down-and-Forward" sequence, left arm parallel; what can I look for to see if I've achieved that correctly? Lastly, I get stuck at where my body is supposed to be in space at shaft parallel. It seems you are already completely down and forward with left arm parallel. Do you just stay at Down-and-Forward until shoulders rotate to shaft parallel, then start "Pull-Back" step 3?

If you teach yourself to golf Left-handed (for righties), besides sucking for the first few hrs, you also look brutally ungraceful compared to let's say Rory who would look like Baryshnikov in motion. Once you can control the club-face, the biggest factor in not looking like an idiot, is getting the transition correct from Down & Forward to Up & Back - that is where I found my key to being able to hit longer irons and woods Left-handed - the feeling of hitting off a straightening right leg - for Right-handed me, it wasn't even a thought.
