I said so before and I will say it again, what you described in the video is Audio Technica AT-LP140XP, a true successor to the old and original LP120. It has a dampened platter, doesn't have USB nor the internal pre-amp for that matter, and the top plate of the 140, plinth is made from metal. But then again, it costs more than 120, approx 500 USD.

I own an Audio Technica LP-120xUSB. I agree with Frank that the built in preamp is not all that, and yes, I do use an external one. What I personally like about the LP-120xUSB is that it does what I want it to do. It holds a steady speed while playing an LP.. I have upgraded the cartridge to an Ortofon 2M Red. I'm not one for a felt mat, so I bought a rubber one that has worked out very well for me. I tried a cork mat and I disliked it, it had too many issues with static in the Summer months. The Audio Technica LP-120xUSB is not Audiophile grade, but it is a very respectable turntable.

I bought one of these recently. Most of its weight comes from a steel plate attached to the bottom of the chassis (the part the feet attach to), not the plinth proper. So far, I'm happy with it, and I will soon be installing a new old stock Shure M97xE cartridge on it. Edit: Throw out the felt slipmat. It's for DJ use, not HiFi listening. I bought a rubber mat for $9 and it dampens the platter very nicely.

The original cartridge is Ok, but ever since I got a Nagaoka MP-110 I fell in love with it and I haven’t looked back. I also got an AT-3600L to use with old, worn-out records and an Ortofon MK2 DJ for bass-heavy electronic and hip-hop music. Having them mounted on separate head shells makes swapping cartridges a one-minute fun task (unscrew the old one out, screw the new one in, adjust tracking force). I got a rubber mat since I like those the most and they perform well. A great turntable overall 😊

As always, a nice video there ! ATLP120X is a VERY good Turn table. The stylus picks up the subtle nuances of the music but if the vinyl is old then it would ALSO detect subtle flaws ! Well, I do not possess a high end instrument and the ATLP120X is the highest level that I would probably ascend to - except for minor modifications such as ortofon 2M red. So Audio Technica has done a fantastic job in this regard by bringing out this model. I have a sizable collection of records in excellant condition and I use the ATLP120X for those. The music on good records is VERY enjoyable to listen to. Fortunately, new copies of most of the western pop music as well as western classical are still available. For the large number of USED Vinyl that are NO longer available, and not in such good codition, I would need an ATLP60X as well. Apparently the ATLP60X is robust when it comes to playing used records with scratches - the LP60X has a conical stylus with a slightly higher traching force. It also handles warped records quite easily ! Most vinyl enthusisasts would have a sizable collection of used records since new ones could be prohibitively expensive. One has to balance the pros and cons

I have a collection of vinyl records that I have not played for 30+ years since I moved from London, UK, to Sydney, Australia, and want a good-quality turntable system with both USB and Bluetooth outputs. I considered the Sony PS-LX310BT but the fact that it has a fixed audio output cable with unprotected RCA plugs was my main concern. I would have preferred a fully automatic turntable but the LP120X-BT-USB is expensive enough, seems straight forward to operate and I like the ability to adjust weights and upgrade / replace the cartridge. I'd like to view your pros and cons.

My LP120 is from 2015, and the only issue I have with it is the cue lever / lowering function is not as slow as it should be. I've had an AT-LP120XUSB with an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge for about three years now. I agree with your likes, and dislikes. Sadly, many things in this modern world have way too much plastic in them. I would question the importance of having a built-in pre-amp. Not having a built-in pre-amp would encourage people to get a descent external pre-amp. At the moment, I'm using an external Suca-Audio pre-amp with an upgraded matched pair of JAN 5654W tubes. It obviously needs a new cartridge; the stylus is canted to the outside and vertically depressed enough that the plastic housing drags the surface of a record. So I haven't done much playback. But the functionality seems great so far. I'd like a new cartridge with a bit more on the low end and perhaps a bit more... presence? Will *any* of the AT 95s fit this model? Came close to buying one last year when I wanted a turntable that coordinated with a classic circa late 1970s receiver that was brushed aluminum and wood trim. In the end, though, I went with a Fluance RT-83 in wood finish, after many months of consideration, but have since upgraded the standard Ortofon Red cartridge to an Audio Technica VM540ML. It's a microline stylus type cartridge. The sound is very detailed and refined, and has really good extension at both ends of the frequency range. Very pleased with the Rt-83 but will likely upgrade the platter to an acrylic platter if or when it goes on sale again. I've also upgraded the RCA cables and run it through an external phono pre-amp despite the vintage receiver having its own phono input/on board preamp.

I have a few turntables so let's talk about this turntable, you said it was plastic. Well of course it is. How does that affect the sound of the turntable? Not at all? How about the platter? It makes a noise if you ding it with your finger. I never do that as I'm playing a record. Can I hear the platter as I'm playing the record? Hell no. It has a less-than-state-of-the-art pre-amp. Is that a negative? Would I rather not have that option? No there may be times I might want to use it. Did you do an AB test between the built-in preamp and another preamp? I doubt it. But hey it does have USB out does the Technics table have that? I don't think so. So really I see no reason to buy a Technics table over this table. I used to sell this gear and this table set up with a good cartridge and it's going to sound great. And is probably a lot more reliable than a bunch of BS turntables out there. The motor has lots of torque and comes up to speed on a dime and stops on a dime. Well, that's my review and I couldn't care less about this or any other turntable out there.

I own the 2018 model of this and it is currently a great turntable. Out of the box it is a good entry level turntable but not the best. The model I got had the anti skate, but it just did not work at all. None of them did. I had to dismantle the tone arm and shorten the spring to make it functional.... and to do that, you have to take it apart and put it back together multiple times to find how short the spring needed to be in order to make it work. I had to do it three times. It took hours each time. LOTS of tiny standoff risers and screws. Once that was working, I completely removed the preamp. Even when set to phono out ( *EDIT: bypass mode is what it's called I think* ), the preamp stepped on the audio signal quite severely. You lost probably 50% of the clarity for the highs with the preamp merely existing. I'm talking about a huge difference to the untrained ear. It took some soldering and drilling to get it set up right, but once I did, it sounded excellent. I chose a decent preamp. I think it was the U-Turn Audio Pluto. I've also since upgraded the cartridge and stylus to the AT-VM95E. I kept the old 95E cartridge and EVEN THOUGH IT SAYS IT WONT FIT, the VM95E stylus does fit the old cartridges. So now I have a spare cart that I mounted in a new headshell in case I drunkenly crash the tone arm. I also put a few layers of gorilla duct tape on the bottom side of the platter and it has absolutely no ringing to it now. All in all, it's a fair turntable. I definitely would prefer the 2018 version over the new version, even with its flaws. I just think that with the flaws, it was still a higher quality product. I run it through a set of Fluance Ai61 bookshelf speakers that are paired with a Polk PSW10 subwoofer.

It's probably the best beginner turntable on the market, but in the end that's all it is - a beginners turntable. These have been made by Hanpin and sold under various brands. I used to have a Reloop RP-2000MK3 for about 10 years and it still ran fine by the time I sold it after upgrading to a Pioneer PLX-1000. The PLX-1000 is also a Hanpin, but based on their flagship model - a lot better than the LP120, but it can't beat the Technics SL-1200G I own now.

For the price I think it is is an excellent turntable, I picked one up in the UK in a sale for £199 (approx $255) and I think it is fantastic for the price. I'll probably upgrade at some point in the future but now I have no complaints.

I wanted one for the speed adjustment,(for play-along),.-as many records from the 70´s,80´s i have are pitched to cram in songs. The first thing i chucked out as the AT95 are not very good, very grainy.Currently with a Ortofon 5 series ,its getting there.Other than adjusting the Tracking force as many records have diffrent needs.

If you are worried about platter ringing out a super easy fix is go to any music store who sells drums and get some gorilla damper cut 4 equal bits about an inch long not super important about the length just make all 4 identical and stick them to the underneath 90degrees apart lined up so as not to hit anything and just like magic the ring will become a thud like a super heavy higher end model. Hope this helps.

I've owned one of these for over 3 years, and I agree with your pros and cons. After experimenting with different platter mats, I've found that silicone rubber mats work best with this model. Definitely upgrade the stylus to a VMN95EN or VMN95ML for better playback. It's super easy to swap out the included stylus with one of these without getting a whole new cartridge. If you can afford to upgrade the cartridge, then go for it. I also recommend a record weight. Another con is that the damping fluid for the tonearm tends to lose its viscosity, so you'll need to refresh it. Fortunately, this is not expensive and you can do it very easily.

I have this turntable but I upgraded the stylus to the brown Shibata stylus, which is made in Japan. I noticed a big improvement playing records with it over the standard green stylus, which was well worth $179 to me.

I have the bronze version of this turntable. I agree about the plastic. Owning 4 other wood plinth turntables the plastic makes it look cheap. (Which it wasn't) I upgraded the felt mat to the Fluance acrylic mat and upgraded the stylus to an AT Shibata.

I recently picked up the 120x bz the bronze. its a nice turntable. the cartridge that comes with the bronze is the same just painted a different color. the dampening is no where to be found on these units. I plan to coat the underside of the platter with liquid rubber. hope it sticks. these are way over priced in my opinion. should be around $249.00, not really for DJ use other than in the home. look beautiful in the Bronze.I also have the 140XP. better build. worth the extra money.

Man, I still own the HomemixTT500 DJ Set from 2012 👀. Funny thing is, considering how old and cheap it was for x2 turntables and a mixer (new on Amazon back then all for £125.24), it has tone-arm weight adjustment, removable cartridge head (also fitted with an Audio Technica 3600L cartridge), reverse play, speeds of 33-45-78, and the turntables are also made mostly of plastic, (besides the "aluminium" tone-arm of course). These are belt-drives

Can the preamp for this turntable still not be bypassed without ripping out the component entirely? I remember this being a major pain point for the last model and prevented me from buying one.

I have the AT-LP120XUSB. The plastic build isn’t an issue for me. I’ve had others made of plastic. That platter ringing is not unusual for many turntables. I greatly reduced that with a rubber mat that many turntables had until recently. I don’t like the modern felt mats. If the onboard preamp doesn’t work out, there are plenty of external preamps available. The one on my AT-LP120XUSB sounds much better than a SONY PS-LX300 that one of my neighbors was throwing out. It works. But, the difference in price and build certainly is ‘the Elephant in the room.’ The preamp and resistance to foot traffic and other vibrations obviously much better with the AT-LP120XUSB.

I got this turntable 2 months ago and i like it a lot. RCA connectors were a must bij looking for a turntable. the wires that come with it are the lowfi king of the lowfi. As an audiophile for over 5 decades with a high revealing system i went for the AT 3600L with the Sony Pink elliptical stylus ( The sony uses the same AT 3600L under a different name as does Rega Carbon) . I use a built in phono preamp of my intergrated amps wich sounds Way better than the built in phono preamp of the turntable.

I bought one of those $60 Victrola's. I put on Led Zeppelin II and it skipped in several places. I bought them both from walmart. So, I blamed the vinyl. Someone said that the tone arm may be too light to stay in the groove. They suggested that I tape a penny to the arm. That seemed to have worked. But, I've been unable to spin LZ II again. I guess I can't admit to myself that walmart may sold be bad vinyl. Maybe I'll try it again.

Oh man... so many good ones. My standby recommendations are the Nagaoka MP110 (reasonably priced Japanese cart with a warner sound) or the Ortofon 2M Blue (more neutral sounding, really pulls the music out of the grooves).

Disappointed with this turntable. I had a problem with the damping cue (dropping too fast) experienced by many folks. I was able to find a KZitem video to (successfully) fix. The anti-skating appears to be off somewhat (again, I manually adjusted using an anti-skating calibration disc).

I made some disparaging remarks about the Debut Carbon DC turntable recently! Come to find out, that the issue I was having was not with the turntable, the cables, the pre-amp, the stylus or the sound system. This leads me to believe that it is a power issue, as I had it plugged into a huge power strip with everything else on that same outlet. When I moved it to another room on a different outlet, it sounds great. I know it isn't the sound system either, because everything else sounds great on it. Bottom line, it must be true what they say about the power source on these things! Time for me to upgrade to the better adapter and find a different place to plug it in!
