Augusta - religious tradition that has been taking place for more than a century and involves believers and non-believers, captured by a unique atmosphere that is repeated every year. Filming was done only on Friday of this year but they will be part of a project in which I have been involved and will be developed soon.
I invite you next year to immerse yourself in this exciting procession that takes place in two acts. On the morning of Good Friday from the church of San Giuseppe the long procession of the Dead Christ originates. It touches all the churches of the country to visit the exposed Sacrament. About seven o'clock in the evening from the square in front of the church of the Madonna delle Grazie is represented 'a scisa' in Cruci after which begins the evening procession of the "Dead Christ". It will travel through the streets of the historic center of Augusta along the Via Roma and Via Xifonia. When the "Vara" containing the statue of the "Dead Christ" arrives between the Xiacche and Xiphonia Streets, the statue of the "Our Lady of Sorrows" suddenly appears carried by the "Confraternity of the Sorrowful" (after it has been taken out of the neighboring Church of San Francesco di Paola) giving scene to the moving "Incontro" with his dead son. From here the long Procession continues along the city streets, stopping inside the Church of Santa Maria del Soccorso where some prayers are held; At about 10:30 pm, at the corner of Via XIV Ottobre and Via Roma, the moving ritual of the "Spartenza" takes place, in which the Simulacri of the "Dead Christ" and of the "Our Lady of Sorrows" greet each other; returning to the respective Churches. Thus end the Good Friday Processions of Augusta.
