The good Omens subreddit has put together a pretty convincing theory that Aziraphale was planning on declaring his feelings the night of the ball, had the demons not interrupted. He laid out his plan in the pub scene. "People will gather, do some formal dancing, and then realize they have misunderstood each other and were actually, deeply in love."

As cute as that is, I do not believe so. It doesn't rhyme with Aziraphael's way of thinking at all. He really doesn't want it declared! He just wants to live it and be able to deny it to himself. Declaring your feelings can be limiting and not necessarily received well....and that's certainly a risk. Why take a risk when they have each other?!

@@livb6945 I wrote a long reply to this but accidentally pasted over it. It was detailed, and I am sad. But I think Aziraphale wanted more at this point. He always held back because of their situation, their sides, and the danger, not just because he enjoyed flirting and a slow burn and forbidden love. All season long (and maybe before that in the between of seasons one and two), Aziraphale has been different with Crowley, reaching out to touch him casually, asserting that it is *_their_* car, *_their_* bookshop, *_their_* peaceful, precious, fragile existence, getting him to stay at the bookshop (hoping he'll continue to stay after Aziraphale returns from his trip), getting him to dance by being the one to ask and leading Crowley out onto the dance floor. Of course he does want Crowley to ask. Crowley has always asked and Aziraphale has usually been the one to hold back (when Crowley holds back, it's usually because he's oblivious, as in the car in 1941, when Aziraphale is crazily brave for a few moments but not quite brave enough to spell it out completely), to say slow down, to put things off. But now he doesn't have to, and maybe it takes a few years to get used to that, but Gabriel and Nina and Maggie aren't going to stand in the way (if anything, Aziraphale makes use of them, consciously or not). Even after the talk with the Metatron, he does propose to Crowley (what is his offer, if not that?), although this is a misstep. It's not completely unreasonable for him to think Crowley who only sauntered vaguely downwards, who tries harder to help people than any of the angels, who is better than anyone Aziraphale knows, who was so happy making and hanging the stars (a function he performs in Aziraphale's life as well), might want to go back to Heaven. And, then, of course, everything went backwards. Mutual proposals followed by feelings of rejection, followed by the (possibly first) kiss, followed by the breakup, two hearts lying in pieces on the floor. Of course they do it in a confused order. Of course.

I think it's very worrying that while lashing at Gabriel Crowley pretty much gave away the truth about the body swap; his and Aziraphale's greatest secret scheme that saved their lives. The same Crowley that just a few seconds later complained he doesn't trust Gabriel isn't just pretending to get them...

There were so many Doctor Who references in this series and David's acting as Crowley reminded me so much of the Doctor (especially when he talks really fast). Loved it!

Right after Nina called out Crowley on his feelings, he walks off and we next see him at a table, clearly drinking. I need to know what was going on in his head in between those scenes, probably loads of gay panic mixed with reflecting on 6000 years of pining.

Please, please, please do not use "gay panic" to mean "a gay person panicking". It's a phrase that has been used against us as a legal defense against people murdering gay people. We should not trivialise our own abuse.

@@nordiskkatt Yeah, and whatever was going on in his head, I don't think he was panicked about gayness at all. I don't think he was panicked, really, at all.

@@HuntingViolets I agree, I don't think there was any panic going on. If I have a quibble with the Good Omens fandom, it's that too many fans believe that the emotional lives of supernatural entities that have existed for thousands of years are similar to the emotional lives of insecure human teenagers! :)

When Gabriel stepped outside the bookstore to face Shax and her gang of demons in his bejeweled suit and fluffy coat, I immediately thought of the pianist/singer/entertainer/actor Liberace (pronounced Liber-Ah-chee).

You mentioned something very important and true but in my opinion is not as simple, Nina and Maggie are meant to be mirrors of Crowley and Aziraphale respectively but not necessarily. I think to go further on this I'll wait for the finale because the ladies were truly genius additions. Same with other characters but more of that in the next episode
