If you can find it, you would really enjoy the video Small Town Southern Man, about Alan Jackson. He had a paper bag of demos on cassettes that he carried around. But he didn’t think anyone would be interested in them because he thought they were just personal songs. I think the producer said they got nearly 2 full albums out of that bag of cassettes. Alan is a fantastic song writer. He never forgot his roots.

I wish I could better convey what it was like when Charlie first hit the airways. When I heard the voice the first time, all I wanted was MORE. And a whole lot of others felt the same. Charlie was becoming a sensation long before it became common knowledge that he was black. And by the time they found out, most of the people that would of cared, were so in love with that voice that they didn’t care anymore. Quality squared. And Charlie was so beloved in Ireland. Charlie was one of a handful of artists that toured Ireland during the time of The Troubles. Some wanted him to only play in relatively safe areas. Charlie said no, they were going to play everywhere or nowhere. Charlie became GREAT friends with Daniel O’Donnell, Ireland’s premiere country star. During COVID, Daniel would get online from his home and give us all a live short concert. One day he did a video call to Charlie and invited us along. Charlie was going nuts with the lockdown and could not wait to get back out in front of audiences. But it was good to see him. Wasn’t too long after the video that Charlie passed. And even more sadly, Charlie died on Daniel’s birthday.

Charlie pride was introduced as a “colored” singer at my tobacco warehouse concert. I knew that was revolting as a little girl.

Dean Dillon stopped recording when he was young. He had a good voice. He and Gary Steward did a lot together when they were young. Both a bit wild.

I am not in church. I am a communist. Do you need to talk to a homeopathic poop doctor?
