Hah. . LOL. . That's hilarious. Ian, Kamon is truly on to something. This year was fantastic. Skiing looks like a blast, my wife and I ski. Hopefully in the future you can make it down.

Plants are triggered by mean daytime temperature . And blooming somewhat by daylength Animals are triggered by mean day length so light period trigger Eg pelts get prime at a certain day length.. That would be an interesting study to see if its multiple factors

Here in North Okanagan the temps have been very mild so far. Hover around 0C. More rain than snow. My bees are all on top frames of double brood box. Some taking cleansing flights but most just chilling out as I look in top vent. El Niño is huge this year so pretty sure spring will be early here.

Mine groups of 4 outdoors definately condense and as you said it runs down the outside walls the centre of the 4 group is at 19 -22°C I believe its condensin on the wall of the bottom outside boxes as they are the coldest then it runs out the front entrance

A speaker at Nahbe was discussing queen rearing and he said he puts a damp sponge in his queen rearing nucs. You could test the theory by putting damp sponge in some of the entrance. It doesn't seem like it it can do any harm.
@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog

What was the reasoning? Same as what I’ve stated in conversation here?
@Bri_bees
8 ай бұрын
No he uses closed nuc's for starting his queen cells so the bees cant get out and he needs to supply them with everything they need to raise queens. Your bees are in the same situation but they only have the water from condensation and so maybe water , not humidity is what the need to start laying. Probably was Jose. Hes a bit north of me in Cali. if one is unable for whatever reason to keep those closed up mating nucs both cool and dark they are prone to baking themselves. maybe trying to keep them cool. once ours are closed up we constantly water them. the frequency and volume depends on lots of factors . mostly requires a constant monitoring for the 2.5 or 3 days we keep them closed. Watering the inside some styles of mating nucs ( California 4 ways ) after they are filled and closed up.is pretty tough. a wet rag would help. Hole this helps.

It could be that the humidity is providing water for the bees that helps them access there stores of food within the hive.

Could it be light? Sheep farmers in Quebec play with the light to get 3 lambing seasons every 2 years. If you turned on the lights for a few hours a day it may convince them that it’s spring.

Let me throw this crazy idea at you......I think the humidity piece is part of it. But could it be related to relative cloud cover? Sounds crazy, but cloud cover will affect humidity, light and solar radiation and heat. Think of clouds not locally but over large land masses. Oh well, got over a foot of snow in MA, so all I have to do is plow snow and think about bees.

humidity is very importent. We are doing polonation in greenhouses in closed sections(screens in the windows) in sometime the humidity is getting low so after polonation the come broodless uit the greenhouses. We are not for the honey. Different situation but an important factor

🤣Ian😂great picture.👍 How long did it take for you to get use to sweeping, I'll bet at first ya had a difficult time with it in your head. How many of those triggers do you think it takes to start them up? Now I have only been a beekeeper a short time but I have wondered if it's multiple triggers hitting at the same time. Do you think that it is single, multiples at the same time or in succession? I wouldn't think a super organism as complex as honey bees would just use a single trigger because of all the ups and down with weather. Sun + moisture change and so on, just speculating. Thanks for the honey bee rabbit hole this morning Ian. Have a great Lords Day, Blessed Days...

Well, SOB, you did really pop in quickly. I was talking a lot of pictures during this and I don’t think I got you in any of them. I was trying to get all the kids in for a good picture and I think I took one with you with just a half body in then. You should have made yourself known, Mr. Jorden could have gotten you a bag of Jorden’s Kettle Corn, all the Next Gen had some, you missed out on the best kettle corn on Earth (IMO and thousands of others) Your loss, you may have to wait till next year to try JKC. 🤷♂️
