After almost 5 years of living in Korea, my tastes veered towards really spicy foods. Adding all those chilies wasn't necessary. I've learned now that northern Vietnamese dishes are very simple and meant to be that way. The subtleness of it all is amazing, so I've stopped adding so many spicy things to pho. ^^

hehehe Yes, the red chilies really makes food pictures pop! ^^ I love replying to comments, but it definitely takes up a large chunk of time. I was talking with Trevor (Food Ranger) about this problem. We love reading and replying to comments, but it becomes very difficult over time, and we don't want to upset viewers who feel like we are ignoring them. I only have 36,800 subscribers right now, and it takes time to reply to all the comments. But I really enjoy this part of engaging with the audience and hearing everyone's thoughts. ^^

@CoryMay81
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Randy! ^^ I appreciate your kind words. I chose Vietnam for a few reasons: 1. Marie and I visited Ha Noi, Da Nang, and Hoi Ahn back in 2015. It was such a magical country, and we both fell in love. So the idea of living here never left my mind. 2. Vietnam is very affordable!!! Cost of living is ridiculously cheap, but you still get good amenities of modern life like cell phones, good internet, and decent housing. 3. The food is AMAZING!!! Best food I've ever had, besides Italy. But Italian food is a whole different ball game. But in Asia, the food in this country was just sooooooo good! What better place to start off the new "Feed The Cory" concept! lol

Getting the feel for it. ^^ I'm really enjoying not carrying other equipment except this camera. The large Rode mic was getting too much attention, so I swapped it out for a smaller mic I already had (the one I used with my GoPro for years). Less attention and still clear vocal audio. zhubox03 - Sài Gòn or HCM City the name of the preserved death man's name that they put on display in HN, it is not modern, it's just another typical poor City like you mostly see in third world Countries around with a few new streets and few new high rise buildings, but for Vietnamese they think it modern because all their lives they see mostly poverty , so if there are few things new just been built they think it's modern .

@CoryMay81

I have humor? lol I film mainly with my Panasonic Lumix G85. Lately, during my travel trips, I film with that camera, plus GoPro, plus my Galaxy S7 Edge phone cause it also records in 4K. But, the cell phone lens has a piece of dust behind the glass. It's ruining so many of my shots and regular photos!!! I don't want to pay some crazy service fee to just have 1 piece of dust cleaned out. I might try to do it myself soon, it's really bothering me. lol

I might try to do it myself soon, it's really bothering me. lol

Yeah, the AirBNB was really chill and in a really quiet area, but also very close to Hoan Kiem lake and Old Quarter. Sorry to hear your hotel was under renovations. lol

Thanks for the tip! Any certain dishes to keep in mind? I went to Da Nang and Hoi Ahn in 2015. One of my favorite dishes was a bitter melon soup from a countryside restaurant. It was bitter, yet... but it was also so savory and delicious, I couldn't stop eating it!!!

Indeed. The old rip off the tourist with bananas trick. lol In Korea, the bunch of bananas would go for about $5, and five mangoes would be around $15. To me, it was cheap. lol Can't wait to get local prices once I establish myself and know my regular vendors. ^^

The yellow "banh quay" that you dipped into the pho is not part of truly traditional pho, for sure. It's originally Chinese deep fried baked good. The reason they come with pho is probably it was requested by Chinese tourists. Over time it became an add-on at this particular restaurant.
