I've gone through this amazing tutorial twice now. Both times, it changed my invocation name from 'skynet' to 'google' without asking. After the first time, I went back in and manually changed the invocation name to 'skynet', but it would unlink itself after about an hour (over and over after I relinked it). I started from scratch and tried using 'sky net' but it just automatically changed it to 'google'. So I'll just keep it as 'google', even though 'skynet' would be so much cooler. Cheers Paul!! I am trying to follow it in 2021 and while I understand what the video is trying to acheive it now requires some research, like you can not have Google as your skill name. Actually it is for two reasons, no capital letters and you need atleast two words. So I tried my google and that worked. I can not use the same wake words as he who shall not be named as that would cause a rift in the time space continuim.

Just followed your directions and everything worked as expected. Only minor hiccup was in the setup of the Google API manager and adding the "Authorized redirect URIs" after I entered the 3rd and hit tab, it moved me OFF of the Credentials page. I almost freaked, but found my way back to complete the setup of that part. Otherwise the directions were spot on and I'm in the US. Thanks again!

Then, after clicking on "Go to Site", I get: 400. That’s an error. Error: invalid_request Required parameter is missing: response_type Learn more Request Details That’s all we know. Can you help? I looked at your information re possible errors and saw this: The skill keeps asking me to link my Google Account This seems to be an issue with the Google Amazon authentication. The fix for this is as follows:- 1. Unlink the deauthorise the app aby removing it from your google account by going here myaccount.google.com/permissions?pli=1 and select the app called "alexa-assistant". Followed all instructions carefully, and after 2 hours, it worked. Using the Google search engine appears to be better some of the times but not all of the times. There were some cases where Bing provided the better, more complete answer. Other times, Google preformed better. The instructions worked out and were complete, but I think all the humorous popups are a major distraction. Also, the instructor speaks very quickly and I had to play back many times the instructions to truly get it. Now, how can I share this skill with my family? What must I do and when must I worry about someone having my credit card info? Again, thanks. Bob

At 7:47 as I'm following the instructions, instead of what you have on your screen, I get a pop-up saying QUOTE Set up OAuth consent screen Before you can create an OAuth client ID, you must set up an OAuth consent screen to let users know who is requesting access to their data. After you set up a consent screen, return to this page and refresh to create an OAuth client ID." and giving options for "Not Now" and "Set Up Consent Screen". UNQUOTE At that point I'm lost so I said "Not Now" because I didn't know what to do on the Set Up page. Your tutorial shows "Create OAuth Client ID" before step 3 but mine says "Refresh" instead and when I click that it requires me to do the consent thing, shown above, which I don't know how to do. At that point, since I am a novice, I have no idea what security problems I may be creating for myself by continuing so I had to abandon. Up until then, it was all jake. I'd REALLY love for Alexa to use Google search instead of useless Bing which doesn't even know as much basic stuff as Apple's Siri! Thanks for your effort and I'll check back for updates.

@@shreedhandeshpande9801 Hey, I finally got it! Third Time's a charm I guess! Mistakes I made 1.I forgot to turn on display interface the first time. 2. Once nodejs6.10 is changed to nodejs8.10, replace it with the original s3 link once the stack is created. I didn't replace it and that was the mistake.

@Paul , i got an error from aws which says: "This AWS CloudFormation Template is provided for users to install the Alexa Google Assistant skill. It is provided under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License. This means that you may use this template provided that it is not for commercial use. You may not host instructions that use this CloudFormation template if you receive monetisation from that page, for example embedded adverts" . Download the json to your computer. Modify in the file nodejs6.10 to nodejs8.10; Uploaded it to S3 from your computer when prompt with the options (@ 11:54 ) and you should be fine

@@passion-techelalbilo4113 Sadly nodejs8.10 is also too old. They're recommending 12 and up. I put nodejs12.x and the whole thing worked. Got to the end, and the skill doesn't work 'there was a problem with the requested skills response'. Ah well.

Hi Paul, this is awesome and i gotta tell you, it amazed me that this exists; while i was researching just today if it's possible linking AA & GH for hours, then i saw your video. Honestly, i have done it at work (not physically present with the devices), but i have a stupid question that you might have an answer, does this mean, that Alexa can be recognized in google home? probably i have an answer to that but i just want to confirm with you, genius guy. Thank you.

I managed to fix this by downloading the .json file from that S3 link provided in the tutorial, then edit the json file in notepad and find where it has "nodejs6.10" (search using Ctrl + f) and replace it with the latest mentioned - in this case "nodejs12.x". Then when recreating the stack, instead of putting in the S3 url link, click the "Upload Template" button, and upload your edited cloudformation.json file

This has been working great for years, thanks so much, it's been a real pleasure! But something's changed recently and now I'm not getting "personalized results" anymore. Now when I say (for example) "Alexa, ask Google what's on my schedule for today?" she replies: "First I'll need your permission to give personal results. You can make that change in Google Assistant settings on your phone." Of course I did that when I first set this up long ago, as I said it's been working for years. Now when I check Google Assistant settings (on Android as well as iOS) I don't see any specific settings for this Amazon Assistant integration, and only see settings for actual Android devices I have. So I think this compatibility was removed... not sure if there's a way to re-allow permission for personal results? Am I alone with this? Can anyone else corroborate?

It doesn‘t seem to work anymore. Though I fixed the most obvious thing and changed the nodejs version in the template from 6.10 which is no longer supported to 10.x to make it at least build the stack without errors, it still doesn’t work. Everything seems to be fine until I try to open the skill. It always says the skill‘s response was faulty. Which is probably true since the test tool doesn’t show any response at all. I would very much appreciate it if you could ask the developer for an update.

To solve NodeJs 10x issues follow below link for fix by rokmohar: (github.com/tartanguru/alexa-assistant/issues/95 ) Steps: 1- Download zip from github.com/rokmohar/alexa-assistant/releases/tag/v1.0 2- Goto console.aws.amazon.com/lambda/home?region=us-east-1#/functions/alexa-assistant-skill-function?tab=configuration 3- Scroll down to the Function code section, select "Upload a .zip file" under the Code entry type, select the .zip file and press Upload. Note: Before trying to do above, you need to 1st follow the steps to change the json file runtime value from nodejs6 to nodejs10.x so you dont get stack creation issues.
