Complaints about poor battery life and signal reception as well as very slow speeds for updates seem to be the the issues i keep seeing listed for the 8a...the slow charging is a "feature" for all pixels .

At 5G the phone gets very hot, and battery drains quickly. My daughter often tells me its hard to hear me in the phone, never said anything like that on any other phone I have had. Camera is bad, no macro functionality. The USB-C port on mine is already bad. If I accidently touch the cable while connected to data like android auto, it disconnects. same with 3 other cables I have tried. I will go back to Samsung when my contract runs out. Had have different Samsungs since I bought a Note 2.. not one single problem. 5G on my samsung used as much battery as 4G.. like the other day on my Pixel, it was at 100% battery. My internet went down, so I put it on share data as a acces point. later at the evening, 27% battery left lol. Software is way worse on Pixel than Samsung. Many of the apps renders the text the wrong way, or behind menus etc, so you can not click on things etc. For example happens in Duolingo, the bank app (which is a pain when it happens) and many others. Never seen that on Samsung.

The displays are basically the same, with the Pixel 8a just have a very slightly smaller screen. For brightness and colours they are not different at all. @arranpbrown
27 күн бұрын
No worries - I didn't notice any difference in the brightness or contrast etc of the screen, or I would have mentioned it in the review! And fair enough about the low-light etc. I think you have to be really analysing the camera closely to notice any sort of difference as the camera performance wasn't significantly different for me! @@arranpbrown Yes bud, I do port gcams so I do test them. The bigger sensor on the Pixel 8 does pull in more light and details especially in low-light. Pixel 8a tries to make up for it with higher contrast and warm tones. The Lens coating is also superior on Pixel 8. The difference in detail is more visible in video's. About the panel, both are using different panels (hardware) and thus will have different calibration. But you're right, most users may not notice it as Google's imaging and colour pipeline is quite mature. Thanks for the quick replies bud 🙌

Speaking of vibrations, Android 15 is coming with Adaptive Vibration which means depending on which medium your phone is placed on, your phone will adjust the vibration. Maybe that will help. Here goes my 2 cents. I was using an iPhone 12 for about 2 years and once pixel 8a was offered for sale at my courier in Portugal for 260€ 256GB + courier points was a no brainer. I have been an Android user till 2 years ago, where my company gave me a company phone. My pixel ownership feels a bit bad, the phone loses state of application constantly e.g. KZitem video, there are bugs within UI like keyboard overlapping stuff, the phone overheated a few times and the battery does not last as long as i would expect. For the price, it was not a bad deal, but going forward, im going back to iPhone to ensure reliability.

What is better the 8a or redmi note 13 peo?
@arranpbrown
15 күн бұрын
There are quite a few differences between the two. I've never used the Redmi, so I can't comment on the actual user experience I'm afraid. The Redmi obviously has a larger 6.7" screen, so if you like bigger screens, go for that. I can almost guarantee the cameras on the Pixel 8a will produce better results then the Redmi, as I think it has a phenomenal camera setup. The battery is larger on the Redmi and the charging speed is far faster, so if that's important to you, then get the Redmi. The last major difference is the operating system. I've never used the MIUI from Redmi, so again, I can't really comment on it, but I love the OS on Pixel and the extra added features it provides. It feels clean and uncluttered, which I love. I would personally still go for the 8a, but you may have different preferences. Also, the Redmi is significantly cheaper at £339 (currently on sale at £269), so that's a big factor too. Hope this helps.

Hey, I keep wondering: how much would Pixel 9s would cost without all that AI bloatware... I don't want that, I don't use that, why I have to pay for it?
@arranpbrown

Good point - they are key 'features' of the Pixel phones now though, so the cost is built in to the price! It would be interesting if you could buy it as an option without those features for cheaper though!

I'd definitely say the 8a. You get a brighter screen, still excellent cameras, a slightly faster processor, newer software features, and software updates until 2031 as opposed to 2025 for the Pixel 7. It's a no brainer in my eyes. Hope this helps!

I will probably skip Pixels for now. The reviews have been 50/50 and the fact that we do not have access to a service center in my country makes them more expensive and not very reassuring. 😢

That sounds like a sensible idea to be fair - always good to make sure you have a way of fixing the phone if something happens to it! It sucks that the Pixels aren't natively available in more countries 😔

Pixel 8a or S23??
@arranpbrown
25 күн бұрын
That's a good question. The S23 is generally more powerful than the 8a as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 it uses is more powerful than the Tensor G3. If you do a lot of gaming, then the Samsung might be the better option. However, the Tensor G3 is powerful enough for everything else. With regards to cameras, I prefer the output from the 8a, but then you are missing out on the telephoto lens on the S23, so if that's important to you, then go for the S23. I personally prefer the Pixel software experience, but OneUI on Samsung isn't bad. You may also get a slightly better battery experience on the S23, as the Tensor G3 (and mainly the modem in the 8a) isn't very efficient. You'll also get faster charging on the S23. Most of the other differences aren't huge, I'd say. I hope this helps!

Pretty sure that's just a KZitem app thing - I often have the same and have to go and select 4K or 1440p! It's quite annoying! I don't think it's exclusively an issue on the Pixels though.

My goodness shush about the bezels. Also no not using it shouldn’t drain the battery that much consider changing settings ext. Video calling is the worst for battery.

To be fair, I did say that they didn't bother me at all after using the phone for a few days haha. I've consistently had that kind of battery drain when in standby for the Pixel 8 and 8a, so I think they are just fairly inefficient. I also get tons of notifications all the time though, so I imagine that doesn't help. I don't really use video calling that much, so thanks for the insight!

@@arranpbrown You did my bad. So much biased reviews about the Pixel 8a I just assume at this point. Nice review. I have the 4a & the 8a o pickup the wrong phone alot of the time lol. (Edit) Here's some things I do to help extend the battery life. Battery saver is always on Turn off: Always on display Screen saver Precise location being always on only maps really needs it when you're using it. Beyond that adaptive brightness but I've seen that on in your video. Also limit pesky apps that run a lot on the background! Facebook if you use that is a big culprit. Pixels still feel pretty enthusiastic from their nexus lineup I hope the Pixel 10 series use TSMC chips. Snapdragons will for gen 4. Sorry for snapping at you :).

I think this phone is some of the worst value you can get. Not only is the screen hella bad with bezels straight out of 2016, but the phone overall feels so much cheaper and lacks hardware and software features you can get for an additional €90 on an 8. Google should have priced it at €360 to contrast with the €530 of the 8, but they instead chose €450 for no apparent reason.
@arranpbrown

Fair enough - as I said in the video, the bezels really didn't bother me after like a day or so. I don't necessarily agree with the phone feeling much cheaper as I think the materials they used actually feel quite nice, but I agree that it is priced too closely to the 8 with the 8 basically constantly being on sale! It would be great if it was priced lower, but as with all Pixel phones, it's already been on sale for well under the RRP, which I think ends up making it a good deal. I appreciate you sharing your input and opinion though - it's always valuable for a potential buyer! Cheers 👌
