SPOILERS couple more in jokes you missed. 1. When R.L. Stein makes his cameo, Jack black calls him "Mr. Black" and says he's a drama teacher. I think the joke is the Jack Black, the actor, is playing R.L. Stein, the English teacher. And R.L. Stein, the writer, is playing Mr. Black, the drama teacher. Kind of extremely meta honestly. (And I hate that word) 2. The whole Slappy and Black going back and forth with Slappy saying "we're the same" and "I'm you". Pretty sure it's a joke because jack black is the voice of Slappy in the movie... So they really are the same. Anyway, really enjoyed those jokes in the movie. And btw, jack black also was the voice of the invisible boy incase you didn't know. Really enjoyed the movie overall. Felt like cabin in the woods for kids. Great family scary movie. And all the references to the show and books really made me happy. All good stuff.

I read a few of the goosebumps books when I was young but the thing I remember most is that I picked one up about robots (I can't remember the title) from the library and read it straight through cover to cover. What I DIDN'T realize was that it was one of those "choose your own stories" where after you read a page there are a couple page numbers at the bottom and you flip to one, then to another. I was SO confused because I was just reading snippets of stories out of order and jumbled up.

I think I'm the only one that noticed that Zach and Hannah only knew each other for *1 day* and they acted like they have been in the friend-zone for years. Then they were going out of their way to save each other, they kissed *Twice* in the movie too. I find it VERY strange. And near the beginning, Zach heard screaming and saw shadows from next door and automatically ran frantically over to save her like she's his one true love, and at that time they only talked *ONCE* and it wasn't even a full conversation. They knew *NOTHING* about each other. And he ended up breaking into their house to save the day like a super hero. And even if he did break in, what did he think he was going to do? Fight of her father? Kill him? Talk to him? NOTHING! HE KNEW NOTHING!! ALL HE DID WAS ASSUME THE WORST AND THOUGHT HE WOULD'VE BEEN ABLE STOP SOMETHING! As you can tell, I got pissed off.

The first Goosebumps book I ever read was The Ghost Next Door, and I thought it was awful, even as a horror obsessed ten-year-old! Hahaha. ...And then proceeded onto others like Night of the Living Dummy and Monster Blood and fell completely in love. Honestly - I became OBSESSED with the series. Much like you, Chris, RL Stine books got me interested in reading and writing. Any time I had any spare money on me, it went directly to my Goosebumps addiction. I remember a specific time when I got like fifty dollars for Christmas and basically walked out of our local bookstore with a pile of entries to complete my collection, hahaha. Fun fact: My uncle was an editor on the first season of the show. ;) Look for Peter Light next time you throw an episode on. I loved the Goosebumps books growing up, but I tried watching this movie with my brother and I couldn't stand it. The characters were annoying and clichéd. It reminded me of an hour long episode of the show.

1 character was annoying being Champ and the all of the goosebumps books have cliche character's so you obviously don't love the books if you hated the film.

I lived in a town in indonesia , a relatively unknown town to the world. but goosebumps was so popular in 90's in my town. so many times u said something cool in 90's which was trending in my place too. there was no internet or world at that time. but i found how amazing it was, a good stuff can be world's trend at the same time..without shared information.. it was just happening..

I think Chris missed it but there is a great inside joke in the movie (Inside joke for horror movie fans). It's when R.L. Stein was trying to write a manuscript in a room at the high school. The place was filled with The Shining references such as blood REDRUM written on a door. The interesting thing is that Stein was writing using his typewriter there which reflects The Shining's moment when Jack descent into madness.

I really like/appreciate how you incorporated "skip ahead to this time if you don't want to know the spoiler". Very nice touch & helpful! I think it would be nice if you incorporated more spoilers in your review, so after we see the movie we can know your thoughts on particular pieces of the movie that shouldn't necessarily be known before hand. If you limit the spoilers to a "Spoilers Section" of the review & let the audience know to skip ahead to a certain time, but then come back to the review at the current time after they've seen the movie for a more in-depth look or bonus to the review, I think that would be great!

Heh, "Shivers" was just the tip of the iceburg. Back in the 1990s when "Goosebumps" was at their height, every book publisher was getting in on the kiddie horror market. You had "Spine Tinglers," "SpineChillers," "Deadtime Stories," "The Shadow Zone," the "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" spinoff book series...the list went on and on and on.

Completely agree with the review. My favorite R. L. Stine books include "Welcome To Dead House", "Stay Out Of The Basement" & "Welcome To Camp Nightmare". I also like a lot the short story "I Am Not Martin" from the collection "Nightmare Hour".

The Haunted Mask traumatized me...to this day, I can't see one of those rubber Halloween masks without feeling really uncomfortable. One of my friends didn't not believe me about this fact and ambushed me with one, forcing it onto my head. I had a full-blown tears and hyperventilating panic attack in the middle of Walmart...pretty sure there's a video of it somewhere here on KZitem.

I'd have to say my top three favorite Goosebumps books as a kid were #1 The Haunted Mask, #2 Werewolf of Fever Swamp, and #3 Night of the Living Dummy. Unlike many fans, I watched the TV series more than I read the books. I did love them both, although some were a little too childish for my tastes (even when I was a kid, lol). I preferred when the stories tried harder to be serious and consistently scary while maintaining a healthy moderation of humor, which not all the books admittedly accomplished. What I appreciate most about Stine's work are the Fear Street books (for teens), which I got hooked on for years. They were often more compelling, made you think, and had better twists even if most were basically murder mysteries. My first was Lights Out, which I still have a copy of. Now THAT'S a Stine film we need, plenty of those stories would make great movies if done right! :D

I may be wrong on this, but isn't stuckmann closer to thirty than 20? Seems like he would've been a little old for goosebumps if you ask me. I figure we're probably around the same age (I'm more than likely a little bit older) and I was getting into Stephen King and other horror lit around the time there's debuted. My younger brother who's about 21 now was pretty into them though. Not that it matters, just curious.

I had a different take on Stine's cameo. He play's Mr. Black (as in JACK Black) and teaches drama (jack black is an actor) where as jack black plays R.L.Stine. I took it as though each was playing the other in that scene.

Of the 62 original books (No "Series 2000" here) I would have to go with the "Night Of The Living Dummy" series particularly "III". Slappy scared me and made me afraid of dolls for a VERY long time. Runner-up is an episode from the TV series called "The Perfect School".

Goosebumps was probably the first significant step in my lifelong love of horror. I was always naturally drawn on a subconscious level towards things that scared me (as I'm sure most horror fans are), and the original book cover of Night of the Living Dummy did that for me. Just looking at it would terrify me, but I would be constantly trying to work up the courage to take a quick peek - very much like walking (running) through the horror section at the video store and being scared by all the covers, but wanting to look anyway.

The Barking Ghost was my favorite when I was a kid. I remember getting nightmares when that dog from the cover woke me up at night time in a dream it had blood drooling from its teeth as it was in bed with me , and then I really woke and then it was really day light.

My favorite was "the Haunted Mask." The grotesque cover actually gave my mother the creeps. Now that's effective cover art, people. I was so-so on the TV series, much preferring the other horror series for kids, "Are You Afraid of the Dark?".

Hated Goosebumps growing up, they terrified me. I was afraid to walk passed the section of the library where the Goosebumps were kept on a bookshelf against a wall, at the end of a two corridors of bookshelves with a large Goosebumps poster above it. Got trapped for ages once, when alone in the library, because I had to move past it in order to get to the exit. Might see this though if I have time, it looks more kiddie than scary.

Welcome to Dead House, the very first book, will always be my favorite. Also the only one that legit scared me. Hungry, ghoulish people that took their dog and killed me, leaving him wandering the cemetery as a maybe dangerous thing smelling of rot? That really, really bothered me as a kid. And the gathering at the end then "seeing" the light cause the ghouls to come apart? That was some messed up stuff.
