It's not fiberglass. Kayaks are made with roto-molded plastic. Super tough stuff. Tougher than fiberglass.

As a teenager in the 90’s, I did that on my snowboard in a similar drainage ditch. When I hit the water, I nearly drowned trying to get my bindings loose while under water. Clearly, I didn’t think things through ahead of time.

I know there is a certain risk, but the speed is not that high (camera on board appear more). Simple in the sense that you don't have a high cost to have fun with friends. Only that.
