Firmware has been updated, so if you want to shoot upside-down just use the "Landscape" mode. If you want to shoot with camera upright, use "All"

Best I can tell, GoPro doesn't let you actually record video upside down. Any setting you use results in video being displayed incorrectly on the computer. All you're doing is flipping the display (which most people don't care about), not storing video upside down. Incredibly annoying that a feature that was present on a GoPro 2 (!!!) is not available on a GoPro 8.

I’ve seen footage where it appears that the camera rotates orientation during filming but I can’t figure out how to get mine to do that? Am I missing something? Is there a setting that will let you live-switch from right side up to upside down camera orientation? Or was I seeing some post-production magic? Thanks for any insights you can share and the great video!

Hi, I have the Hero8 Black. I want to record while the camera is upside down and have the playback video come out right side up. However, when I go into the setting for Touchscreen, I do not have the Landscape Lock you mentioned at 1:04. Instead my three options are Orientation, Screen saver, and brightness. When I click on Orientation, my only options are only All or Lanscape. Why am I not seeing what you are seeing in the same model?

Hey I just got a go pro hero10 and I have the auto rotate feature on but when I look at the footage on my go pro and I flip the screen on my footage it still stays upside down and is not right side up. Can someone help me fix it? Would really help thanks!

@Deech72

@@lottemorsink I wish I remembered the exact solution, but after talking with CS, I think all I had to do was make sure the angle was where I wanted it and then locked it. The confusion is that it doesn't actually showed flipped like it does on my older GoPros. But it actually will lock on the angle you want it to. Might take a little experimenting but it should work!

Thanks, I'm a gopro rookie. I took video recently that's upside down and transferred it to a folder on my laptop so it opens in Windows media player. Now I don't know how to rotate it? We're headed out west on a trip so I'll have to keep the videos to my 2 128 gb cards. What do you recommend when I get back? I have on the race track videos and I"ll have mountain vids from Denver and the area. Is there a different software I should get? is it free? is it easy. Thanks in advance. Randy

You can rotate the vids on any video editing software and it takes 1 second. Windows movie maker is free along w others ones I can’t think of right now. Don’t worry just keep filming and take care of it when u get back.

@funnyvman699

U need to transfer that video to a computer or phone then flip or rotate the image. U can do this free on iMovie if u have a MacBook or if u have a Windows computer u can use free editing software for that too as it’s a common feature. I used to do it w Windows movie maker but but not sure that still around these days

all right, so I am stupid. I want to record with my GoPro mounted on my bike upside down. Whatever I choose (off, up, down) the turns out upside down. Can I record a video with the camera being upside down that will be normal on my computer, or I have to flip the footage in some editing program?!

@@Lacronh I downloaded free program HandBrake. Once the video is imported you check the rotation, and then just encode it with a quality you select. Works for me.

@@slobodanknezevic6894 I tried a few different programs, including Windows 10 video editor, Power Director, Shotcut, and GoPro's Quick for desktop. After producing the video, it was still upside down. So nothing has worked. Those programs were certainly able to flip the video, as that is a simple procedure, but the final output was an upside down video. I think there may have been one that did work, but the final output video had quality issues.

Leonard Lacroix im able to flip video clips through the gopro app. Just transfer clips from the gopro to the app and then through the editing feature you have the option to change the video orientation.
@Lacronh

@@majorpuffen7444 GoPro told me about this option. Have not been able to do it yet. But flipping the video is not the problem. The problem is that when copied to a computer, it is upside down again.
