Have you seen the guy who was number one in NZ for years in the late 70's race? He is not slow. Have you ridden a 400cc 2 stroke motorcross bike? They are not slow. Whips are and always have been just for style, and that's coming from people who were around when they were first started being done. Scrubs are different, but whips are just for looks.

Depends 2 stroke or 4 stroke. Assuming you have riden 250 4 stroke, or a 125 2 stroke if you have riden for a while you could go with 250 2 stroke just remember thats like a 450 4 stroke.

Its helpfull I rode a 350 quad for a few years before getting a dirtbike. Its defintetly is completely diffrent. What type of riding do you plan on doing trails or something like motocross? I ride a 2 stroke wich is sometimes a pain on trails , dont get something with to much power like a 250 2 stroke. I would recommend getting a 125 2 stroke or a 125 or 250 4 stroke. Reply if you have anymore questions i would be glad to help.

“In racing, when you whip your bike, you stay a lot lower and you get back down on the ground faster, and the quicker you get to the ground, the quicker you can get back on the gas. You definitely have to hit jumps faster than normal when whipping, because you lose a lot of kick off of the lip, so to make up for having less air, you have to go faster in order to clear the jump." -- Kevin Windham

No it doesn't, if anything it increases drag. They throw the bike sideways making a larger surface facing forward which would slow them down. The only time it would be beneficial is on a hip jump where they need to turn in the air. I've been around loads of people who rode before people did whips. It's to look cool that is all
@WindFireAllThatKindOfThing

If you would have told me these guys would make these track times and that much air time and acceleration on a Thumper, back in the 80's, when we were JUST getting Mono-Shock 2 strokes, and Jeff Ward was just a new kid on a Kawi, I would have told you to lay off the Peyote.
@ATVSANDPYROTECHNICS

I got the same problem i would love a KTM but the cost. I currently ride a Honda 2 stroke my dad has a Honda 300ex quad. But anyway a Honda 250 4 stroke would be great it may seem a little powerful at first but you will get used to it quickly. Look at the CRF they are very good bikes.
@drioood
12 жыл бұрын
does it really help that much tho ?:O well for sure it they started doing whips because they also want to look "cool" and get alot of sponsors etc xD however i can truly see the point of doing scrubs, being able to tackle a jump in such speed that normaly would result in an overjump :P

Dude. For about 4 years I owned a '03 Scorpa SY250 and did Trials competitions. Now I ride a '64 Honda CR250 and do VMX. I've got a fair bit of motorbike experience. And unlike most people I've learned to ride a bike that isn't easy and doesn't handle everything properly

Tough block nearly went from GoPro to Go4aRow. Only a few will really experience a ride like that. He's a great rider and fantastic to watch but being aussie I have to say 'Go Reedy 22 motorsport. Bring on Chad with a GoPro.

the real responce is that most do it for style but the pros and A class etc do it to "scrub off speed" off the lip of the jump turning the bars alowing you to go faster up to a jump and not overshooting it.
