People dont despide the Now Now, but they usually think It gets eclipses by Song Machine (and even humanz). Dude idek to be honest, every single album since plastic beach has been awesome in their own ways. Humanz and song machine are groovier and experimental, now now and cracker island have more of a sentimental touch to them. Love them all way too much to pick one

@@vegetaldeternera675 yeah I agree I love every gorillaz record In it’s own way and the musical creativity has always been there just not as exploring with sounds in every record but still great. gorillaz songs have always been growers for me, i still vividly remember the first time empire ants HIT for me. this feels like a chill summery pop album, some songs couldve been expanded upon and played with more i think but over all nice tight listen. the melodies are so good too thats what won me over from the deep cuts like The Tired Influencer and Tarantula. Possession Island's mariachi section gives me strong demons days vibes, reminds me of the country switch up on Last Living Souls. i think damon should work with another hip hop producer, i think the hip hop production mixed with damon albarn's pop sensibilities is what makes gorillaz first couple albums really captivating. sorry for the essay, great video man keep it up.

@cheerio I feel like lyrically in particular this is one of the most story based Gorillaz albums ever. When you read the lyrics of the songs it really feels like 2D is talking about his experience falling in love with the girl in the Forever Cult while simultaneously feeling sadness from the artificial cult-like nature of the present day. And the music itself reflex these feelings.

Cracker Island - Absolute banger, top tier Gorillaz song Oil - it’s grown on me, I wish it switched up more throughout, but Damon and Stevie’s vocals together create an amazing texture The Tired Influencer - Very lovely, and lush sound, but again, it could’ve gone further with the sounds and themes Silent Running - Not that daring, but it really works as a song, and it’s good fun to listen to. Damon really knows how to make an ear worm. New Gold - Incredible song, love Impala’s chorus, there’s something so epic about it, I get so lost in the drive and production, and I even think Brown’s verse fits in really well. Baby Queen - Probably the best chilled out track on the album. The story and imagery painted by Damon is so rich, and the instrumental reflects that, but again, the production could’ve gone further to help tell this story…but it’s still really good. Tarantula- Maybe I need a bit more time with this, but I’m really not feeling it at the minute, despite the nice production. Tormenta - Again, this feels safe. It’s a good song, but what’s it doing on a Gorillaz album? Skinny Ape - Weird, surprising, unhinged, fun!!! THIS IS GORILLAZ!!! I love this song! Possession Island - It’s schmaltzy as fuck…but I can be a sucker for that. I actually quite like this, especially when the horns come in. From an album perspective, it’s not earned at all, but there’s a warmth to it that I love.

I really love this album, as a long time Gorillaz fan, it feels like Damon has finally been able to piece together a pop album, with great collaborations and ear-worm hooks that sink deeper in the more you listen. I'm surprised by how disruptive this has been to the listener base, a lot of people either love it or hate it. The night it dropped, I listened to it through, and then sat with all of Demon Days, and then bounced back to Cracker Island. The dna of a lot of Gorillaz style can be found in this album, but, it migrates more to pop than the hip-hop/soul/alternative rock sound of Demon Days. I genuinely feel this is their best album since Plastic Beach, and far surpasses The Fall, Humanz and The Now Now. Song Machine is good, but it's a collection of singles by design, so doesn't have the overarching tone that this does. Looking forward to seeing what they produce next! P.s. the Deluxe edition tracks for me don't work very well, they're far more disjointed in tone and style, Controllah and Crocadillaz are the stand outs, but Captian Chicken really misses the mark.

This album is so one note it's kinda sad. Most of the songs have some interesting ideas or lovely melodies but they don't really evolve in a meaningfull way. An they are all just very same-y sounding synth pop songs except for like ... one or two songs. In my opinion if you drop a ten track album I expect every song to be a vital part of the album but this album doesn't come with any surprises apart from a few moments like the punk-ish synth part on Skinny Ape or the horns part of possession island. Silent running is a great track but in context of the album it doesn't really stand out that much. If I'd have to rate the record I would give a 6/10 ... or even just a 5/10. Was just a very mid pop record with a few highlights ... Even Humanz was better than this. At least that album had a concept that explains why the album is the way it is. And even though the sound of the it was kinda same-y too it had some production ideas that made a lot of the songs memorable. This album on the other hand is just one big blob for me
