Yeah, unfortunately Phi Life Cypher are really *REALLY* basic. Remember, the first Gorillaz album was recorded from 1997 to 2000. At that time, I think British hip-hop was still really really underdeveloped. They hadn't quite gotten their own voice yet. But Damon wanted to feature 🚇 British musicians on his new Gorillaz project, and wanted to explore hip-hop as that was still new & unexplored territory for a lot of musicians, especially British ones. So when it came to finding a British hip-hop group, these guys were really all that was available. Fortunately, Dan The Automator recognized that these guys were kinda shit and didn't have what it took to hang with the big dogs. And also fortunately, his & DJ Kid Koala's primary collaborator Del Tha Funkee Homosapian happened to be in the same exact studio as Gorillaz for a while, and Dan managed to convince Del to lay down some rhymes on the songs that Phi Life Cypher had originally rapped on. Then when he showed it to Damon, he couldn't deny that Del was MILES AND MILES beyond what Phi Life Cypher were capable of and thus they officially got replaced on the album. But Damon did make it up to them. Since Del was only willing to perform with Gorillaz during their concerts in the USA and Canada, Damon brought Phi Life Cypher along to perform with them for all their concerts in the UK, Japan, & France. So they got at least a LITTLE something out of it all. Plus he put their version of _Clint Eastwood_ on the B-Side of the _Clint Eastwood_ single and the _G-Sides_ compilation too. So it's not as if their original contribution has been forgotten or anything...

@@dildonius”The Sounder” was also on “G-Sides” and the B-side of “Rock the House”. Phi Life Cypher rapped on “The Sounder”.

@@psychedelicpiper999 That's right they did. Must have been early in 1998 or 1999.
