In a beautiful valley, a few hundred meters from the Danube, in the vicinity of the village of Gornea (Sichevita commune, Caras-Severin county), at the initiative of the local administrative and ecclesiastical authorities, the Gornea Hermitage was established in May 2001 by the establishment here of two nuns from Dealu Monastery (Târgoviste), together with the priest, Hieromonk Valerian from Patrunsa Hermitage, Vâlcea county. The Ministry of the Interior offered the land and the buildings where a border guard post had been operating until then. Already in that year, on the site of the former border post, a chapel dedicated to the "Entry into the Church of the Mother of God" was built, after which in the following year (2002) the refectory, the cells, the kitchen and the archondary were built. In 2003, the foundation stone of the new church was laid, large, beautiful, elegant, balanced, bright, in Byzantine architectural style (cross with equal arms). The new church, which for the time being lacks the interior painting, was raised and consecrated on November 18, 2010 with the dedication of the "The Healing Spring" (which will become the main dedication) and also then the hermitage was raised to the rank of a monastery. Another important moment in the history of the monastery was April 2016 when a group of nuns and sisters led by the mother abbess, nun Dimitria Iosif, came here from the Nera Monastery. Thus, the monastery received a new spiritual breath, in addition to spiritual activity, a stage of community involvement also began.
