@hearandplayThe transpose button can be useful if you use it as a tool to learn. So for instance if you are fluent in C# but want to learn the key of D. Play a song that is in C# in D but transpose down to C#. In other words transpose to keys you know while playing in keys you don’t know so that you can learn all keys.

No doubt, if being used to challenge oneself in this application. But as a crutch to avoid learning new keys, absolutely not.

I don't Know who to hear this but I have been transposing for the past 5 years. Just last week I sat down and said "God damn it ... I am learning all keys " The process is quiet painful but it will be worth it cuz playing in a keys broadens your music horizon

I'll say this, I agree transpose is useful but it shouldn't be used to a point where you are satisfied and not trying to get better. However, many elite musician say this to try to make themselves seem higher than others. I day that because cry very few elite musicians well give you real tips on getting better, mainly church musicians, but will definitely clown you if you don't play at an elite level or do something like use transpose or can't find the key. Musicians that aren't full of themselves see someone who can't really play and they try to help. Most of these musicians have had elite musicians who helped them but they can't do the same for others. I will say everybody can't teach and most times those are the ones who can't only talk about people but can't help them.

As a musician learn how to play all 12 keys. And if you do transpose continue to practice. And come out of that button. What really help me was learning the numbers system. Always be yourself. And just because you can play in all 12 keys. Does it make you no better than the next man. Don't matter how good you get it always somebody better than you. The key is to practice and stay humble..be yourself.. only what you do for Christ will last..

Brothers, I TRULY RESPECT your approach to music ministry. I never had any formal piano training ( just a desire to play) and I started at a"late" age (35). I'm now 53 and playing for a church which I enjoy. I'm not a transposer. Never really liked it. Although I'm sure one can make some NICE music from it. I do agree with Brother Mike in reference to getting the " feel" or flow of service. I believe it takes time to allow the music to minister to you 1ST. It then becomes more effective for everyone else. Enjoying the dialogue. Keep it coming.

If you are so arrogant about not using the transpose button but then come up with the example of someone playing before you using it and you can't get it back ....... I mean ..... you can play in any key. Certainly you can play any key on a transposed keyboard ?

I have not heard any downside other than if you are faced having to play the piano or a organ/keyboard without a transpose button you are screwed. Otherwise nobody cares except for those dudes that went through pain to learn how to transpose on the fly ...... But I get it. If you want to be a professional musician then learn how to play in every key. If not. Just have fun and do whatever makes you sound great .....

I transpose but I sound like y’all when I do transpose but recently I been working with a instructor and I’m kinda mad she’s making pay for stuff I already know. I stress to her I want to know stuff that sound good rootless voicings that’s how you going to get to the next level I think. So I stop the lessons cause I want my own sound.

Wesley Davis sometimes we have pride and don’t realize it. I took lessons and my instructor showed me things I knew but I didn’t let him know I knew. In some cases he brought clarity and understanding. I wanted all the nuances but wouldn’t have understood the concept if I had not allowed him to teach me.
@wesleydavis9160

H88sixty One I understand that but I didn’t have 250 for 8 sessions one hour long I’m that learner that needs at least 2 hours. If I’m investing that much I may as well get a Alain merville course that’s my point I want high quality material for my buck. I’m only 21 so I know I have a lot to learn but it’s hard to learn from the good people when they don’t want you to surpass them.
