Baz, I truly enjoy how you play. You clearly have skill and provide a wide, yet succinct variety of sound samples that one needn’t be a virtuoso to relate to. For you to be sought out to review special models like this shows how excellent you are at what you do.

Got my Pono TT8 from The Ukulele Site, the factory setup they provide on all models over $300 means that your instrument goes for some in-shop build & finish checking with anything that needs a tinkering with will get a fine fettling. Happy happy happy……maybe Pono could use some classier paper labels for inside the Ukes though? not a fan of their glossy makers label 🤔. Nothing but praise for staff and customer relations at The Ukulele Site😎👏👏👏.

So unexpected to see this in my updates. So pleased Andrew sent this for review. I watch the guys at The Ukulele Site every week, just as I do your reviews. Just love your reaction and facial expression when you play any instrument, it tends to say everything. In this case oodles of positivity. I have a Pono mango concert with the same strings and love it. This has been an instrument I wanted to see another person review, so this being sent direct to you is just great. I can’t help think, just wait till the instrument opens up after a few years, it sounds great now. Thanks for yet another great review and to the guys at The Ukulele Site for sending it.

To continue, you play in a way that allows us to better appreciate the sound we are likely to hear if we purchase and play one. Corey and Kalei would make a kiddie uke sound professional. Reams of talent and the ability to get the best from the instrument. You also give us a good assessment with regard to construction and handling of affordable instruments. Now when the day comes that I can afford a Tyde I will be knocking on TUSs door for sure. 😊

That was always the intention from day one - no point in playing like Jake if a buyer only knows three chords. Same reason the songs largely stay the same - so they can be compared and contrasted. Thanks Jeff

Bought my first two ukes on your recommendations, Baz, and while I just bought this a week ago on my own, I'm THRILLED that you agree with me on the awesomeness of this series. 😁 I went with the spruce-mahogany slothead, which is insanely bright (in a good way)! I spent a good long while at TUS, carefully comparing head to head with Moonbird, Farralon, Koaloha, and Kanilea in particular, along with some customs just because I was there lol and this blew them all away for me. That it costs less is a bonus for sure, but THE SOUND, my goodness, and as you say, it almost plays itself. I had intentionally prepared some tricky practice pieces, and found myself blasting past the trouble spots I'd had on my other two ukes, no problems at all. What?! Lol I swear it's true. In the end, I spent maybe 15 minutes doing just like you, strumming basic open chords and grinning ear to ear. This is a genuine game changer, and a sneaky steal at this (admittedly considerable) price. PS. I, like you, am no Corey or Kalei, so it was a pleasure to hear a "real" person play this in your video and still be knocked out by it. But how's this for pressure? I was plunking away like the goofball rookie that I am while I was visiting TUS *with Kalei right next to me!* For the love of god, man, stand over there instead! 🤣 (A lovely guy, mind you, every bit as humble, kind, wise, and generous as you'd think... BUT STILL. lol) As ever, thank you for doing these exactly the way you do, and telling us exactly what you think! Truly lovely one, this! I'll have mine in hand once TUS finishes their world-class free setup. 😁

Great review, Baz. Wow, what a beauty! I was listening to you on a set of earphones & the sound is extraordinary. It sounds like two instruments playing in unison, such is the harmonisation. Such a a great tone, im toss between a "Pono Master Series" and the "Anuenue Moonbird". Just from your memory - would you say this is as loud or even louder than a moonbird? The standard ponos are a bit too quite for my taste.

Really is a gorgeous instrument, but I actually found it brighter in tone for a cedar top! It is so responsive it really almost sounds like a spruce to me. Why do you think it sounds brighter, if you agree? Maybe with a low G, I would feel different?

I don’t - it has a woody cedar sound, but amazing clarity. If there is brightness I sense it is coming from the acacia. One of the most balanced instruments I have played

Excellent review! As someone who has experience with lattice bracing on high end classical guitars a few thoughts: 1. Not surprised they swapped strings, carbon trebles on lattice bracing is often way too much on guitars. The strings they sent pair well! 2. Lattice braced instruments sometimes are very much optimized to a key. This one is fairly balanced (some tuning toward G I think based on what you played.) if you are purchasing lattice braced instruments I feel it’s really important to try it in many keys, even weird ones. This would’ve been really good information. 3. Lattice bracing and cedar are the most popular wood for this bracing, definitely a great choice. This instrument sounds like a lattice cedar instrument. 👍4. Overall great review! One of the few reviewers on KZitem that gives good information 😊

I still have 2 Pono in my collection a soprano and baritone and I expected it to be good and wow it is, I always thought Pono should of tried to go a tad like flight and aNueNue in styling, but this is a shift and a welcome one the sound was always there style not so much, but the style of this line is very pleasing and sound has more on the top and bottom Ponos are very mid tone and not a thing wrong with that but this is a kick on in top and bottom I would have one very nice indeed, great review
