Thank you so much. I needed that to remove a weld in an unreachable spot for my angle grinder. I was even considering getting a dye grinder. Your knowledge saved my day.

Great video, I did some gouging with the cutting tip and it's really hard to control depth and often ends up cutting, so thanks for the "tip". ;)

Hi Pete, greetings from England! Great series of videos on plasma cutting. Couple of questions - if I use a non contact cutter will damage occur if I touch the piece I am cutting with the tip? Can I use the torch with a bigger gap to heat up a piece of steel for making a bend. Keep the videos coming - you're a bloody laugh - makes me smile!

A non contact tip will cut if dragged but it will be destroyed very quickly. I wouldn't recommend it. Unfortunately, a plasma cutter isn't useful for heating steel for bending either. Great to have for cutting though.

Hi mate ,hope your well well over there ? I wouldn't use a pilot arc as a drag tip .Also you will never get enough heat to bend steel thanks.

Thanks, the princible reason I am picking up a plasma cutter is to get rid of my internal fillet welds when they are wrong or most likely of poor weld quality. Hey, what can I say, I only started welding a couple of months ago. just can't get a grinder in there and I can't afford a 3k plasma unit with gouging capabilities. I would think you might want to turn the amperage down initially and then work your way up to get rid of the weld?

I have a massive project coming up where i need to flush cut bolt heads off without damaging the material that the bolts go through. Been considering gouging with my cheap plasma machine where special gouging tips are not available. Your modification is so simple. For my application, I wonder if I shouldn't hold the torch at a steep angle to "wash" off the bolt heads, vs perpendicular. Your thoughts?

it might be ok useing this for 1 bolt but i wouldn't use it for many.

Hi Pete , I bought a pilot arc torch for my non pilot arc machine and wired it up the way you showed in one of your videos and it works, 1 question my arc only stays on for about 1 second then stops, And if i release the button it wont start arcing again until the machine stops the air running then it will arc again. Is that normal? Thanks Joe Sydney Australia

Have you tried gauging a weld out like a carbon arc? If so was it effective? Thank you

It will work. It's generally not as good as air arc but much better than nothing or a grinder.
