9:15 nah mean "Sampling" is just another way STEALING. If someone ever STEALS anything you worked hard for when they break into your house just tell the police you just got "sampled."
@burf4963
9 жыл бұрын
mrfrogbutt1 Exactly, sampling is a politically correct term for stealing a beat. I'm sure they went through all the legal stuff so they're in the clear, but the bottom line is the "sampler" took that beat and recycled it for their song. I think it's the lamest and most unoriginal way of making music. Puff Daddy's first album was basically a bunch of old 80's songs put to rap lyrics.
@mrfrogbutt1
9 жыл бұрын
Matt M its the record companies that OWN the music and pimp it out as they see fit. That was the WAR between Prince and WB and him trying to protect an artists rights over the control f their music. He stated," IF you don't own your work,your work will OWN you.
@goblinb
9 жыл бұрын
Matt M i don't have anything against sampling 'per se', i've been listening to hip hop and dance music and mixes since i was a kid, and doing what is called 'mash ups' and 'sampling' nowadays, as well as remixing, was just one of the tricks dj's have always used to keep things interesting. my problem with it is that people who listen to the modern song nowadays have no clue that it is from another, older song,and have most likely never heard that song, nor likely will they, so any sort of tribute and nod to songs and artists of the past just falls on deaf ears. most people who hear modern sampled songs think the beat or whatever's sampled is original to the modern song.
@mrfrogbutt1
9 жыл бұрын
goblinb Its called "IGNORANCE" and that's what happens when THEFT takes over. I call it by its name, "theft." If you were a musician or an artist you would understand. We live in an era where almost everything is being destroyed or massacre for the almighty dollar. Pop culture is just one giant orchard of remakes,thievery and unnecessary "reboots". To create something new an altogether original seems to be a crime. Inspiration is pretty much frowned upon because it threatens to moneymakers. Its a sad place to be in history

To those who are unaware, LL Cool J's "Doin' It" actually samples an obscure rap single from 1988 called "Wild Thang" by 2 Much. This is where the "doin' it doin' it & doin' it well" comes from. That track in turn samples "My Jamaican Guy." Where LL got in trouble was he got the original female rapper to reprise her lines from "Wild Thang" but never gave her credit for it. She doesn't even appear in the video for "Doin' It."
