Grace Jones, the camera can just stay on her face and you can't look away. What an ARTIST. Heard she wrote all her own songs. She had something to say.

And what's really important to realise here, is that having the single camera shot in this video...you can actually SEE Grace Jones ACTING here, the visual expression is in her face and how she can change the features of her face for LONG moments of visual facial expressions. This type of visual work reminds me of the way Andy Wahol would work, when he had long visual expressions in his films, but being a music video here...The visual is not done TOO MUCH to the extreme in the way Andy worked.

Not only is the song great, but the video! It's just a single unbroken shot of Grace and her variety of expressions. Personally, I think it's still pretty interesting to watch, despite how bare-bones the imagery is. Nowadays, it'd be overly complicated with shots of a city or crowds or everything she's describing laid out in full detail or something. The way it is here, it's intimate, like a "this is the last straw, here's the deal, man" type of thing.

It's just so fascinating how her refusal to conform to the industries standards that so many women (especially Black women) fall victim to actually catapulted her career back in her hay days. 30+ years later as a grown woman seeking to live my life beyond the cookie cutter automatons called human beings, I now have the greatest appreciation for Grace Jones as a woman who decided to personally define and trademark her own unique individuality. To top it off, my adult eyes now see how drop dead gorgeous she was and still is at the age of 60 something... Hail to Queen Grace Jones!

For me...Grace Jones as a Black Women in Popular Music is an integral part of Black-American Civil Rights ( even though she was Jamican and has European Connections); in that here is a Black Female Artist with her own UNIQUE indiviuality, that does NOT CONFIRM to world-wide wide social representations of the Black Female Music Artists. She paved her own individuality that gives voice to Black Women ALL OVER THE WORLD, in living and creating in your world, BY YOUR OWN MEANS OF EXPRESSION...AND NOT WHAT WORLD- WORLD SOCIETY EXPECTS YOU TO BE. This represents Black Female Power to the Max.
