I hate seeing dachsies being picked up and put down by their middles or dangling their back legs-so dangerous for them. You can slip a back disk and permanently paralyze them by handling them improperly. Always, ALWAYS, pick up and put down dachsies by supporting their back legs! (And don’t let them jump off furniture.)

@@graciethedachshund Jennifer-Oh, I’m so happy to know that. I adore dachsies, they have the best personalities. But their long backs are so fragile. Our first dachsie went down and the vet school at the university of our state didn’t operate as the disk rupture was so bad. We had two other dachsies, related to each other, with IVDD, who each had a single temporary back problem. Another two (also related to each other, both with IVDD) had successful disk surgery. Even though we’ve been as careful as possible, we’ve had a run of bad luck with IVDD. About three years ago we adopted a paralyzed dachsie-she’s such a darling, and after all, we have had a lot of experience with paralysis with our first little dachshund. Thank God, our other dachshunds haven’t had IVDD. (But don’t get me started on Cushing’s disease!) Your Gracie is a darling little dog. I hope she has many more happy years with you.

@@abbyiswatching2046 kids need to be taught, don’t they. They have no way to know better, otherwise. We adopted a 9 year old paralyzed dachsie almost four years ago-she is just a joy (and an adorably bossy, but very loving, little thing). She is so easy to care for, and is a happy little pup.
