I would say that McLaren's C+ is a little hard. Particularly when you are giving Aston Martin an A-. Yes, McLaren did have an underwhelming start but I would say that the general performance level over the last few races, has seen them rise to near the top of the grid for the last few races, whilst Aston Martin whist being great at the beginning of the season (particularly in the hands of Alonso), but the later races have seen a fall off. So the comparison between Aston Martin and McLaren, with over a marks difference is very harsh. Personally I would suggest a B+ or B for Aston Martin, as they have not been consistently at the top, and a B- for McLaren due to the huge improvements with the new concept.

Though it has paid off for Haas, it still pisses me off, that they would ditch a rookie after only two seasons, one of which was with an absolutely useless car. Haas itself is such a terrible team but has sky-high expectations of a rookie at the same time. That really killed all sympathy I've had for the team previously. Sadly though as its been seen with the multiple parting of staff (Abiteboul, Prost, Budkowski, Permane and Szafnauer), Rossi appears to have been only a small part of a far bigger issue as it seems upper management has a bad case of "We want it yesterday" (Ironically, something Otmar wanted to avoid by going to Alpine and leaving Aston Martin). This attitude is made worse by the Groupe Renault chief executive Luca De Meo making this statement: "The Alpine Formula 1 team will become the French Ferrari" Last time someone said something similar, it did not end well (Hint: It was green and it was British) "Going nowhere fast" feels very appropreate as its sounds pretty much like Toyota's ill-fated F1 campaign in how it was run: By upper Management and not by the people that actually should be doing the job.

I completely disagree. The fact that McLaren went into the season with a poor car, and have turned the situation around, where they have been consistently on the top of the podium, towards would suggest that a C+ is actually undermarking the McLaren. They came in the season with known issues (related to the emergency TD to combat porpoising which left them blindsided during the car development) and thus lower expectations. Unlike Ferrari and Mercedes which were kinda hyped out of the box, and Alpine being considered as the best among the midfielders, McLaren is expected to be a disaster. So the fact that they turned that expectation around even beating Mercedes and Ferrari (which were hyped) showed they are doing something right

@@Lastname6955 1. McLaren being 9th to begin with is embarrassment. It's not something that should be applauded because they got better later. And they are not 2nd, they might be able to reach that on certain tracks in perfect conditions for them, but overall they'll probably end as 4th fastest after the break. And I'm not saying they shouldn't get a better grade once the season is over. They probably should, but just looking at the first half it was dire in the majority of races.

You can't base grades on previous levels: grades must be based on current achievement. Ferrari should be higher, as should Merc and McL. Expectations have no place; achievement is the benchmark.

Interesting how these grades are given when none of these so-called "teachers" giving out the grades ever know how to run an F1 team, let alone know all the intricate things a team does to get them to where they are on the grid. Click bait.

@@MinisterManDan No I won't. That's just changing the topic. I just don't like how pundits give out performance grades as if their word is definitive and based on full knowledge of all the inner workings at each team. Sure, everyone has an opinion. And their grades are just that, an opinion. But pundits and channels do this predictably often for click bait, discussions, etc so as to earn money. Have you ever heard any former team boss give grades like these? No. Because they know how hard it is to run an F1 team.

@@hakki368 but often time the only people who can accurately describe and see the flaws or positives with anything are the outsiders who can see the whole forest. I think if you took your position to it’s logical conclusion, nobody would ever discuss anything. There’s a lot of guys at The Race have been covering the sport for a long time, they’ve seen teams rise and fall and everything in between. To say that the staff there who cover this sport so closely don’t get to have an opinion on performance if they didn’t turn a wrench is reductive.

Tbh Mercedes and Ferrari have disappointed enough to make any rational rating be below c- , even if they are faster than many teams but still they have vast resources, I think they should be rated at D , I mean Ferrari has good cornering speed the last year and had more cfd time for this year and it even had the engine benefit which were rewarded due to their poor reliability (even though they have real political issues in their team but still it's very disappointing) while mercedes looks like a mid feild car , i mean sure the car is very Dead but they do have a very experienced and vast team with a 7 time world champion and they themselves have arguably the biggest workforce and manufacturing capability and the major factor is Aston Martin had used their wind tunnel arguably better than Mercedes, I think mercedes culture of spending millions had disabled them to make the right and economically rational decisions on time, their last season was also poor and I think they should be D- , I mean they are one of best teams with big capital but they underperformed last year too with one race win at the end of the season on a very favourable track , I think their last season should also be accounted and I think you should have accounted that Mercedes and Ferrari has arguably the best driver lineups especially ferrari and the amount both the drivers in each team pushes is quite high (higher than many of the other drivers ) I mean they have good drivers (this might appear biased and is subjective to you because whenever a driver finishes in an unexpected position - it is either they pushed hard or it is the car and their team strategic decisions) You should have considered not giving teams ratings such as B , B - , B + ,A or A- I mean it would really depict the reality or the relative rating that none of the teams are able to touch red bull

"Mercedes looks like a midfield car" meanwhile they're in second in the constructors and have consistently finished in the top 6 overall. P1 channel did a video on what the scores would be if RBR wasn't here this season and Merc would be in a comfortable lead over Aston, which would be ahead of Ferrari. Claiming that Ferrari and Mercedes have had equivalent seasons, when Ferrari looked like a title contender about a year ago, is pretty ridiculous.

Too harsh on Merc and McLaren as well. Merc is in 2nd, do they really deserve a C? McLaren realized their mistakes in testing and came up with a plan to fix it. The plan has now succeeded. Isn't this better than Williams that just has a bad car that is rescued by Albon's heroics?

@@michaelgideon8944I don’t agree. McLaren now has a car that makes you go “wow this is clearly second on the grid “ and spent the first chunk of the season struggling to get to points, that’s not acceptable. There’s not a good reason to have that much of a gap between potential and what you started the season with. Mercedes going from the series dominant car for a decade to “scraping into second because everyone else sucks so bad” is not impressive. They’ve got major problems. Williams is making such a leap forward and showing proof of concept for this brain trust. Williams has gone from most hopeless team in the sport to looking like an attractive investment opportunity for the first time in ages. If they can keep building on this, who knows? Maybe in a couple of years they can get a works deal with an engine supplier looking to get in.

@@pardiimre40 points gap from 3rd and fourth after at one point being a either a consistent 2nd and race winning driver at one point is frankly unacceptable given the car. A top flight car should not be at risk or even outright getting knocked out instead of being a regular visitor in Q3. 40 points isn’t an insurmountable challenge to be beaten out on. If Mercedes or Aston extract more performance or Mclaren outperforms him regularly even while Alonso or Lewis finish above him in the points over the second half of the season his position in the championship will be lost handily.
