to be fair Souness scored once every 6 games from midfield; but he was playing for the best team in the league at the time who spent most of each game in the opposition half. Hard to be a regular goal scorer from midfield in a season like the one west ham just had.

Man City are only buying Declan Rice so that none of their rivals will get him ,the exact same thing happened with Calvin Phillips. Neither of them are going displace Rodri and for some people to say that man City need to replace Gundogan and that's why there trying to buy Declan Rice is a little silly because Gundogan was on the bench an awful lot and that's why he turned down City's new contract because it wasn't long enough and he was sitting on the bench more than he played. Man City with their Billions are in that position of being able to buy players that would strengthen their opponents teams and just put them on the bench, even with their 116 charges of breaching the financial fair play rules and the financial rules of the Premier League. They bought Grealish and didn't play him very much for a year until Raheim Sterling wanted a move and they knew all the rumours going around about man utd and Chelsea wanting Grealish, so they bought him and benched him and the exact same thing happened with Calvin Phillips, he was never going to get into the team ahead of Rodri but they knew man utd were desperate for a CDM and were lucky to get Casimero. Just look at City's bench and the strength in depth they have compared to everyone else and because they nearly lost the league to Arsenal, the last thing they want is to see arsenal strengthen their team because next season arsenal might be strong enough to actually follow through to the end with a Declan Rice etc. I understand that Declan Rice will back himself and think he'll get straight into man City's team but I don't think he will!!!

The Sigi Johnsson tackle was the worst I'd ever seen by a Scottish player. The Iceland fans then started booing Willie Miller perhaps because he had a moustache and a perm! A good midfielder and leader perhaps..

Didn't like O Neill as manager of Ireland. He couldn't accept any criticism from journalists, much of it warranted imo. He has a very thin skin and when people are not bowing down and giving him praise he's not a nice person at all.

I think the Rice debate is media driven plain and simple. A fantastic, young defensive midfielder who could do a job in any team in world football. 100m, Grealish cost that much and Rice would contribute more to the team than him

Grealish is an attacking player. Rodri, Stones doing a much better job than Rice.

If Declan Rice wanted assurances from City, he shouldn’t go. He can’t just assume he’ll slot in, without having to adapt to Pep (which could take an entire season).

But that is the whole point of wanting to develop and improve yourself as a player - to do so you need to slot in and adapt, otherwise stay where you are.

Martin needs to look into Kieran Mckenna. As he IS a project manager. They exist.

I love Martin but he supported his point with an anecdote and a comparison to Souness
